Hello everyone! I have been coping well with going wig-less :) Everyone at school knows, and it's going great. I get bullied occasionally, but nothing horrible yet! I can't help but feel all alone though. I've tried to do so many things to make that loneliness go away, but it seems to stay. This Saturday i'm going to my first support group.. i know it's a silly thing to be scared about, but i can't help but be a little nervous! Has anyone ever attended a Alopecia support group? What should i expect?

Thanks so much! Hope to hear from all of you guys soon! Stay strong and beautiful. :)

Actually, I had alopecia 25 years before I ever met another alopecian face-to-face...and that meeting, of the SF support group at a Giants baseball game...changed everything for me. Seeing their warmth, acceptance, and humor made me no longer care about even family misunderstandings, because I HAD MET OTHERS LIKE ME and could actually KNOW I wasn't alone. Watch: you will see. Make sure you get some people who you can e-mail after the meeting!
When I went to my first support group meeting we just got to know each other and talk about all our different experiences with alopecia. You'll have a great time and the loneliness should just fade right away! Don't be nervous, just have a good time and remember that they are going through the same situation that you are.
Hope this helped :)
I have never been to one, I would like too!! But just remember everyone  is in the same spot you are! How awesome is that?!! They all know what you are going through and want to work together ! I would be nervous too, but it's nice to know that everyone else there just wants to meet others like themselves and share their thoughts , let us know how it goes!!!
I went to my first support group at the end of September in Latham, NY. It was so relaxing. Everyone was so friendly and knew exactly what I was going through. They all had excellent advice and really interesting to hear others experiences with Aleopecia and how they handled the situation. It was so nice to explain my feelings to someone and they knew exactly what I was feeling and I actually felt like I had a new family! I have no doubt you will love your new support group! Don't forget we're here for you also if you ever need someone to talk too. Hugs Di
sanah, its the way to go my love, meet up with people who can relate and understand, you will wish you done it sooner, all the best x
Sanah, they are wonderful. Remember it's a lot like Alopecia World (people in the same boat as you with the same feelings and emotions. Just go with an open heart and you will be fine. You don't even have to share if you don't want. You can go and just listen :)
I just listened and laughed the first time. Later, I led an art-therapy activity, and still later, at another group, I ended up leading the group when the facilitator moved out of the area!

Hey! I am in your area. How did you find the support group? Is it still going on? I would love to attend one if you hear of any.
