Looking for some tips here! This week I am going on my first ever trip with my wig. I am sort of excited to be someplace where I will not run into anyone who will give me a strange look with my new hair (lol), but I'm also concerned about how to travel with it and make sure I'm not going to be stuck in a pinch. Since I got my wig last week I have not yet worn it everyday all day, and there have been a few days where I have just stayed home or gone out in a scarf.
So anything you have in terms of advice is great! Tips, warnings, etc. Should I bring both my wigs--what if my luggage gets lost?!? How do I pack them if so? Is it bad to wear a wig on a long plane ride? What about airport security? I am planning to wash them for the first time this weekend and I just have this worry that I am going to completely ruin them.
Thank you!

Bekindtoearth, so glad to hear you sailed right through, I like the Idea of seeing people who don't know me and don't know there is something different about me, I still agonize over feeling that everyone I know, even casually is looking at me knowing I'm wearing a wig. I hope this goes away soon. There is a woman at our church who wears a really nice synthetic wig, and I don't know if it's cause I know it or what, but I feel like it's obvious, I've told all close people to me I was getting it, so I thought this would help, for some reason now I think they are all being "kind" and feeling sorry for me....hope this goes away soon too. I don't know why I'm so afraid to wash it myself and style it, I was always such a hair person, and loved doing my own hair, crazy how insecure you can feel, even when you have a fantastic hairpeice. What kind do you have? I've had some troubles getting use to it when I wear it for long periods too, I just got mine this week, and have worn it to work two shifts now, and it doesn't itch or anything, but I'm real aware of the lace front and having trouble with the sideburns and over the ears, I wear cheater glasses, and am having trouble putting them on. Do you have much bio hair left? I don't wear anything under my wig. should I? I had whats left of my hair buzzed, and the salon did not suggest I wear anything under it. So many questions.
With my long wig I actually took it in weekly to be washed and straightened because I hated fixing it and at one time I think i burned it when I tried to do it myself!!! I was lucky though - I was put in touch with a very sweet and generous stylist who offered to do this for free for me because she could just do it between her other clients appointments. I dropped it off Fri and picked up Sat. Of course I gave her a little money every week since I didn't feel right letting her do it for free. Once I switched to the shorter one though it was so easy. Very wash, air dry and go. It is completely synthetic and not supposed to be heat styled. I DO use some hair wax in it. I figure now when I pack I have A LOT more room for shoes and accessories since I don't have to bring a single hair product or appliance. Always looking for the silver lining :)
Hi Christine
Sometimes it takes a wee while to bond with your hair. The reality with all wigs good/bad or indifferent is that they aren't your hair and that's an adjustment that can be difficult to work through.
Christine - I feel you should pop back and talk to the people that helped you with your hair choice. They really should be able to help with all your worries and concerns with regards to the ear tabs and whether it is better to have a cap or some sort of head covering underneath it.

I recently took my long wig on a cruise. I wore a scarf on the plane (and was slightly offended when they inspected the knot excessively). I turned my wig inside out and wrapped a scarf around it to keep it from getting tangled then I put it back in it's box and packed it in my suitcase that I checked. Now that I think about it ... it would have really, really sucked if I lost my luggage with that very expensive hair in my bag! Maybe put it in your carry on. I'm not sure what kind of wig you got but I only wore mine at night - it was too hot for day so I stuck with scarves. Plus then it was really pretty at night. Have fun!!!!
Hey there,
I travel all the time across the country (and with my 2 year old son). I usually wear a scarf on the plane and bring my wig in my carry on. Otherwise, it's a really long day and I feel like once people see me in the wig, it's too hard to then take it off if I get uncomfortable. I'm pretty low maintenance. I usually just put my wig inside out in a giant ziplock, throw some wig tape in the bag, and bring it on the plane. I have never had an issue with airport security. Let me know if I can help in any other way.
good questions......... I would pack a carry on bag and yes bring your back up wig, just pack it in the small box it came with. and carry in there......once in hotels you can use the ice bucket upside down to sit it on or a tall glass or light shade NOT On of course....LOL I would not put it in my suitcase cause if luggage is lost then you are out a wig. hope this helps......:) have a good trip.......ps I wish I could go out without hair, but I am so not there yet.......... one day..... :)
I have never had a problem while wearing a wig on a plane or through airport security on domestic or international flights. Really, who can even tell if one is wearing a wig and I'm sure lots of people do. Last year though me and my sister went to San Francisco and I decided to wear a scarf on the plane. No problem on the flight to S.F. but on the way home I was pulled aside so that they could pat down my head (scarf) I carry my wig in my carry on and turn it inside out and put in a little cloth bag that I have. I also carry extra bandana's and scarves, just in case.
Hi
I travel extensively around the world with my friend who wears a Freedom Wig. She has never been stopped or asked anything about her hairpiece. (When we talk to people about what we do they never pick her wig as a wig, but will often look at me thinking I am wearing a wig... I have my own growing hair - I think the assumption is made because I wear my hair short, whereas my friend has long blonde very pretty hair.)
In my experience through all the countries we have visited her wig always looks great and security has never ever been an issue. As I live in NZ and she comes from Australia we have very lonnnng flights to anywhere. She has never had an issue with discomfort from her wig during these flights, not to say we both don't get uncomfortable because they are soooo long. She always carries her wigs in her hand luggage... things can get lost on long flights so I would suggest to carry an extra to make you feel comfy. She has a blow up head that she carries with her to put her wig on at night, but she doesn't always use this as a lampshade or ice bucket will work.
I hope you have a excellent trip and have a heap of fun!

Thanks to everyone for your comments! Well, I am back from my trip and everything was fine. It was the first time I wore my wig every day for many days (since I can work from home, I often have days where I don't wear it). I was very conscious of it and worried about it more than my hair when I had it (will it get caught in something? What if it gets snarled? How do I look? Checkcheckcheck....) but I think it looked good/normal and no one seemed to notice. I brought two others and had fun trying different looks in a place no one knew me. The plane was a bit uncomfortable after a while but not unbearably so.
I'm still so careful with my human hair wig and I'm wondering when this will end. I feel like every time even one hair falls out I have failed! I'm washing it for the second time today and so worried I will mess it up somehow... but I guess I'll get used to it eventually.
Thanks for all your tips and comments.
I generally like to live in hotels, this is a special fetish. Also, I was lucky to visit the special hotels with the above-mentioned situation thanks to https://planetofhotels.com/en/. I have been to the Philippines just once and would love to come back. Maybe you understand this more than I can give advice on where to go?
