Views please on the coolest wig
Does the mesh cap soften after washing?
Are any other types of cap available;
what wig is most likely to cope with strong sunlight and not overheat the wearer?
I currently cope using a washable bamboo liner which I can rinse in cold water and wear wet to stay cool but hey we don't have many days in Scotland with temperatures over 20c/68f.

If u get a human hair wig, they can double knot the bottom and single knot the top.

Sorry, all wigs can be hot if you are predisposed. Hair itself is an insulator, and keeps our head warmer so no cap or wig will keep one cool. I have found however that if I wear my wig in an up-do (I wear synthetics also) it is much cooler. I am a sweat hog and am frequently out in the heat with my animals. By keeping the hair off my neck I feel much cooler. In fact, my synthetic wig is cooler than my human hair extensions were last summer.

Many thanks. I am thinking about human hair because I find the synthetic wig seems to heat up on the crown when the sun is overhead and I had hoped human hair would not be quite so much of a conductor of heat. A custom made cap also appeals but so far the gripping mechanisms are a bit of a turn off. I am beginning to wonder whether to stick with what I have and carry chilled water to soak the bamboo liner whenever I can get to the loo!

Soaking the liner is a GREAT idea! With human hair unless you wear it natural it will destroy your style, but with a synthetic this should work very well. We use evaporative vests when the weather it too hot with the horses, they work very well. This would be the same idea. I am going to try it myself. Thanks!

You will be amazed how quickly the liner dries out and it also stops your wig getting too smelly. I do a 2 hour dance class and soak the liner beforehand, half way through and at the end. Each time it has dried out and sometimes when I take off my wig the steam is rising from my scalp!

I feel the same way as Chris for hair. No wig, no matter how it is touted is going to keep you as cool as your own hair or having no hair at all. Any headcovering even soft scarves can become hot in warm conditions. If you excercise the same issues will be there.
My personal opinion is a Freedom Wig is one of the best options available to live your live in. My daughter has worn them for ten years in Auckland New Zealand (a warm part of NZ). Will it keep you cool no, but what it will do is take on your body heat without creating any insulation. The cap is made of medical grade silicone which is water vapour permeable, this means that when you perspire the perspiration passes through the cap keeping your head comfortable and dry...no itching either. The other wonderful thing about this type of cap is that it will keep you secure. You don't have to worry about your wig coming off when you do perspire. Silicone alone will not create this security especially in warm conditions.

Hi I'm new to wigs & have been searching for something moisture wicking that is washable instead of dispisable like the headline it lner. I noticed you mentioned a bamboo liner. If you don't mind me asking where can these be purchased? I live in TN if that helps. Sorry for the change of subject. Btw, have you seen the hip hats with hair site? Might be helpful.

Hi, the liner I use is made by Follea style 8246-248. It's 95% bamboo viscose and 5% spandex. Sorry dont know where TN is! I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and bought mine from the local AA Hair Studio but Follea is an international brand so I imagine you can access via your local wig studio. I've not seen the hats with hair but will look now. Thanks.

OK, thanks. I looked up the manufacturer for the one I saw online which may be the same thing because the only dealer in the USA was at Follea. I sent them an email to see if I could order it from them. Wish there were more options for moisture wicking caps. Thanks again!

I buy custom lace wigs that have a lace front and top and stretch lace back. I sew Dermafix material at strategic points inside the cap to hold it on without glue. I use this type of wig as my "put on and take off" unit in the summer. Also in the summer, I have found that the less-expensive lace fronts with open wefted backs are quite cool and comfortable. I use both of these cap styles when I want to cut in chin-length bobs. Neither of these cap styles can accommodate high pony tails/updos.
If I am going to wear it for any length of time, I use a little bit of Got2b Glued around the hairline to keep it flush with the skin.
I dance (ballroom/Latin/swing) and sweat for 3-4 hours practice and have never had the wig come off.
I recently went on a four-day dance weekend and didn't want to be bothered with human hair, so I bought along a few short synthetics. One of them is a Paula Young "Ryan" in petite. It's made of Coolmax fabric inside, which wicks moisture. I was very impressed with it for style AND comfort during an extremely busy and active weekend. Got lots of compliments on the style, too.

I just whip stitched small patches of Dermafix that I took out of old wigs. You can buy the material from lori's wig site online(different Lori, not me). Lori's Wigsite would probably sew it in for you.

Cotton headscarfs(or turbans)are the best when it gets really hot. That's what I wore most of the time in China early May,couldn't stand the wig (artificial short hair). It's very hot now in Paris (France) and I stay without anything on at home and at night but I don't dare to go out like this because of the sun, I've never liked it on my head, used to wear hats and they don't look very nice on a bald head...
