I'm currently doing the following: chiropractic (does that count?), hypnosis, acupuncture, reiki, and masssage.

I'm considering seeing a naturopath and/or having hair analysis done to see if there's something in my hair that's making it fall out.

What about you all? What have you tried, and especially, what have you had success with?

i've tried hypnosis. i don't know if it helped or not because i was also getting cortisone injections at the same time. but i did feel less stressed overall.
I tried Ayurvedic treatment before. It works for AA , but its still hard for AU. The hair comes & falls again.
About Ayurvedic treatment, its a herbal treament, all natural! This treatment is more than 1000 yrs old!! The first thing u hav to do is leave junk food. Eat more of vegetarian food, esp. iron rich food like spinach, kidney beans, etc. If u eat more of non-vegetarian food then eat mostly iron rich products. Eat lots of yougurt coz these meds create lot of heat in the body which can b cooled down by yogurt. Take ur meds regularly. Its better to take with honey coz some r too bitter to swallow. Do Yoga regularly, every morning, esp the breathing exercises, rubbing ur nails with each other. Yoga should b done only for 10-15 mins. Do regular meditation also to calm ur mind & reduce tension. It should be done for 15-30 mins. U can put on some spiritual chants to get into it or a complete silence.
Hi Priya: I am also very curious about your Ayurvedic experiences. If you have time to share I would appreciate it.
Hi Jac,
About Ayurvedic experience, wen i had AA as a kid (i was 8 yrs old). I took this treatment for about 6 months & i got all my hair bak! So, there is definately a complete cure for AA. Lots of people having AA hav been cured, mostly were at the early stages like wen the patches develop.
But, unfortunately for me, after 6 months i got cured, my patches reappeared. As i was a kid, i didnt know much about wat kind of treatments i was goin throu. My grandfather & parents used to take me wherever they thought was gud for me. Later, wen i grew up, i asked my parents wat exactly went wrong that i got alopecia bak again after getting completely cured. They said, they didnt pay much attention to the Dr. sayin that even after getting cured, i need to take meds for another 6 months so that the disease is removed frm the roots & it wil never come bak again. So, with 1 mistake i m suffering til now.
If u hav AA, then i would advice u to plz take the treatment & dosage according to wat the Dr. exactly says. Just b patient & hav faith in the Dr. The treatment is expensive but, worth it!

Hello Priya. Can you please tell me which Ayurveda center you went to? Thanks.

Meditation / visualization. Yoga, I see a naturopath and have been "Eating Right for My Blood Type" for about 5 months now. I would say I have had some success with the diet changes and my head has fuzz and some real hairs. I used the clippers about 2 weeks ago to buzz down the new growth. I'm not too excited though, I've seen it before and been too happy only to have my new growth fall again (I've been AU for ever) so until my whole head is full of hair (its still patchy regrowth) when its full of hair I will say I've had some success, in the meantime I'll say I've seen some improvements.
hi,

i think i mentioned this in your other post, but i have been doing acupuncture for the last several weeks. i am experiencing some regrowth (this started 2 months ago) but i can't say if it's from the acupuncture. he uses lots of needles, but lately he's been using the 7-star needle, which is like a little needle hammer tapping on my scalp to stimulate blood flow. i'm getting a little tired of the acupuncture, but since my insurance covers it i have less incentive to stop.

i also did medical qigong, or healing by post-it notes by a hand waver, as i like to refer to it. several people recommended this woman for other ailments. she was actually very good at reading my energy and assessing what was going on without my giving her much information, but i am very skeptical that it actually did anything for me except lighten my wallet. she said my body did not want chinese herbs, even though there are chinese herbs that are good for promoting hair growth.

initially, i tried the essential oil route (there was some study suggesting a recipe of oils - those who used it experienced more growth compared to the control group). but it was pretty messy using that all over my head and trying to sleep in it. might have been easier if just applied to the patch, but i have hair loss all over.

otherwise, i am taking iron supplements, a mulitvitamin, and biotin (the gnc nourishhair forumula). i think iron is important for hair growth. lots of studies have shown an association between low ferritin levels (low in the range of what is considered normal) and hair growth. i think nutrition is really important, so i've been trying to cook more and eat better. i have also been alternating days of nioxin and clobex, along with rogaine at night. i figure if i throw enough stuff at the disease, something is bound to stick!

i am getting a massage today because my neck and shoulders are very stiff and i think the stress and tension has been causing me headaches. i'm looking forward to that!

oh, one shampoo that i really like is giovanni triple tea - it's sulfate free and has rosemary, peppermint, tea tree oil. it's very very tingly, but it feels great, especially if you have any itchiness. i definitely recommend it.

so after all of this, there is some growth (as confirmed by my sister with a huge magnifying glass) in both the initial patch (i did one round of injections but then stopped b/c my hair loss was so extensive) and actually all over the rest of my scalp. haven't gone commando on the head yet so the new hair growth is hard to see, but it is there.

hope that helps!
Holistic treatments are good for your whole body; however, regrowing hair? frankly its something that has to be treated with RX. The benefits of holistic treatments for your mind, body, and soul far surpass the benefits of regrowing hair. Sometimes we journey done a path seeking an end to one problem, the path your taking is great because it will reduce a lot of problems
Hi Aimee,

Given I have several spots I often try to experiment! for example- right now I am using steroid foam on one spot and on another I am trying an alternative treatment. I am using neem oil. (which is a powerful natural anti- inflammatory from tree bark) Interesting ....of course I do not know whether it is a fluke- but the neem oil spot has more regrowth.

I have also tried acupuncture, manual PT, energy healing, and laser. AS well as diet changes and lots of supplements. Also chinese herbs.
