Hi Everyone--

I have been posting on another discussion my progress on Xeljanz. I did the trial up in Stanford, and after 3 months, continued on as a post-patient. I purchase the drug out-of-pocket with the RX my Stanford doctors have provided. A couple months ago, I switched from CVS Specialty Pharmacy to Costco because the latter honors a California RX discount card that gives me $700 off the prescription price. Well, I went to Costco in early October to get my refill and they told me Pfizer upped the base price of Xeljanz again. It is now at a cost of approximately $3,300. I got my California discount, but am back to paying $2,600/month because of the price increase.

I am fed up with the blatant greed of the drug companies who can basically charge whatever they want for a drug. We have been hearing about this on the news recently about other drugs--ones that are essential for some patients' survival. Yet the drug companies can freely jack the price up to astronomical amounts, shutting out many patients.

I am able to afford the high cost of Xeljanz, but it has certainly burdened me financially. It's like taking on a new mortgage! I know it will be years before we see anything get FDA approved for Alopecia--that's just a sad fact. Even after the great success of the Yale, Stanford and Columbia Alopecia trials, Pfizer wants to focus on psoriasis instead of Alopecia. There is no financial relief coming soon.

I have been hearing stories about folks heading to Mexico to get supplies of Xeljanz. I was also reading about that US company--Imprimis Pharmaceuticals--that is working with other compounding RX companies to make drugs more affordable. What I am asking here, is--does anyone have info to share about how they are getting Xeljanz other than the traditional route?

Is anyone going to Mexico? Does anyone have knowledge about the reliability of the drugs you get in Mexico? How do we know they are the real deal? I have heard rumors that some of Dr. King's post-trial patients are getting Xeljanz supplies down there. Anyone have info on a reliable pharmacy?

Also, is there any compounding pharmacy out there that is stepping up to produce a cheaper version of Xeljanz? Or is this something we have to wait for?

I am trying to see if there are any options out there other than being at the mercy of Pfizer's greed. I can't believe they are raising the price of Xeljanz after all this success. It demonstrates the sad, unethical state of out nation's drug companies.

Hi Susan, I read your experiences about the trial you have participated in, I am surprised they make you pay for the drug, after all you are subjecting your body to possible serious side effects to help them do the study...Anyway, glad you are seeing some success. My comment is based on the question of whether to buy from Mexican pharmacies. Several years ago I felt I needed financial relief with a drug I took to function with full body chronic pain. The drug was just a non steroidal anti inflammatory but it was expensive here. When I crossed the border back to the states the agent warned me about buying drugs in Mexico but thinking I knew what I was doing I did take the drug. I had purchased it before in Mexico and had no problems...It was packaged exactly the same as in the USA, and said it had the same ingredients. Well, it almost killed me! For days I could not stop vomiting and ended up severely dehydrated. So be very careful about buying drugs in Mexico, they can look exactly the same but be very different than what you get here. Good luck to you

Susan did you try to appeal/external review?
It takes a few months to complete the process, but you have a chance of getting covered!
I did it, and now my insurance pays for most of it and I use the copay card to cover my copay, so in the end it's free.
Do you know this year the copay card went up to 12K? Ask for refund if you haven't done yet!
I wouldn't try a pharmacy out of nowhere. Lots of fake drugs out there.
Hi xeljanz 2015I sent you a friend request to pm you but you never accepted but I would just like to ask are you sure the copay card has gone up to 12k? As I phoned Pfizer and that said that Haven't heard of it yet ? Thank you in advance if you reply
Sorry Singh, I never check friend requests. I'll check it now.
Yes I'm sure it went up. I saw Dr King last week and he told me that. So I called Xelsource to check my balance on copay card and they confirmed an extra 4K had been added to it! So I just quickly submitted a refund request for the Rx I had just filled. She said I should receive money back no problem! She also confirmed that in January 12k will be added to the card again!
I can't tell from your comment but was an extra $4k added for 2015 or are you only referring to 2016 that they bumped by $4k (from $8k to $12k)?

Yes 4K added for 2015 and 2016 will already start at 12K

Could someone elaborate on how we go about getting a refund for 2015 for the extra 4K that was added? Whom do we contact and what do we say and what paperwork must we acquire?

Susan, The info you need is on your copay card that the doctor gave you.
That's great information. Thank you.
You're welcome cmdd20
