I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

I asked dr king about what to do after regrowth. He suggested that once the hair grows back, to switch to a topical cream to sustain growth

OK cool, Thank you for your answer because anybody answers me here it is kind I am French, OK but when go you he(it) approve the cream?

He wasnt too specific about details regarding the cream, but he said that if growth is successful with pills, he would recommend switching to the cream to sustain it, he also said that if i didnt get any growth with the pill that i should try the cream in addition to the pills to see if it would have a better effect on growth. I only started Xeljanz about one and a half weeks ago, my follow up with dr.king is in march. They have to compoud the cream from the pills. He will most likely approve a cream for you if necessesary.

I read in one paper recently that another advange of topical jak inhibitors is that they also stimulate the follicle. In fact this was the basis of some people saying that these medicines could also work for androgenetic alopecia. so I see why Dr. King said that about the cream. I'm from Europe, and no chance I am getting an appointment with dr. King. Also I don't think this cream could be commercialized anytime soon.

Yeah, ive read that too. I wonder how much a cream would cost though and how long it will last before having to purchase more.
That's AWESOME! Was she totally bald or AU when she started Xeljanz?

Hey people is just want to give my 8 week update

Since starting I have about 80% velvuse hairs on my head how ever they are white and only can be seen mainly through a bright light.

I have velvus hairs on my beard area about 20% and black terminal hairs in my beard area too. No hairs in my moustache area as of yet.

I also have about 5 terminal hairs in my private area sorry to be upbrunt.

No hairs anywhere else just yet.

To me this is slow growth but am
Happy about the black terminal hairs so not sure what to take from this so far. I know others have had quicker results some slower too.

This had all been on 2 X 5mg xeljanz a day.
