I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

For anyone who has tried cyclosporine, did it work and how many months did it take? Have been on it for 3 months with no hair growth. I check the postings everyday here and find the positive support really helpful. Thank you all
hi ,
I'm on 3 pills , but what the best time to take pill, because I don't like to eat pill before go bed cause I can't sleep very well ,
thank you hope someone help me .
There is no best time , it would be better to take your tablets around the same time of day everyday. As for when the choice is yours.

As for me I take one in the morning and one in the evening.

Hey ADML, how is the regrowth? Were you ever able to grow facial hair (mustache/beard) and do you ever experience hair loss still?

Hi DJ,

It's coming along well , I have added minoxidil again to my daily regime in combination with the tablets and I am seeing lots of new little hairs coming through. I have about 85% of my beard. Will post photos shortly.

The hair loss I experienced was due to stopping minoxidil. The good news is even though I was losing a substantial amount of hair it made no difference to the overall look .

How is your regrowth so far?

How is the re growth on your scalp going ADML?

Hi ADML, glad to hear your growth is continuing.  Is it normal to lose a hair or two when brushing or styling?  I tend to panic if I see one hair come out.  I got my first hair trim and style yesterday.  Can't begin to describe the feeling, but I know you can relate.

Hi Star, absolutely ! Nothing to worry about its perfectly normal. That's fantastic news I am so happy for you.
Sultan h, take one in the morning, one at lunchtime and one before you eat dinner.
Hi Kris,
You will get more responses to your inquiry if you start a new blog, or thread. The title could be:
"Cyclosporine results anyone?" for example.
Best of luck!
