I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Thanks Singh, how are you coming along?
I've been on xeljanz for 9 weeks now and have some vellus eyebrows with a few black terminal hairs and just White vellus hairs on my head but they are very small and I think I saw a few tiny black hAirs. And some black hairs on my beard and some white but that's it really so it's a slow process for me. However a lot people are saying the 3 month mark should start getting in the blood and then hopefully il see some more growth.

Can I ask how far in did you start seeing growth ? Or did you add anything or up the dose ?

It's a frustrating disease this..
Yes, you have to have patience, but it sounds like you are actually progressing well. I had a slow start also and although I started seeing tiny hair at two months, it did not seem to be doing much. I upped the dose to 3 pills around 4 months and added Plaquenil. You definitely need to give it more time. You are getting good results for the amount of time you have been taking it.
Thanks Starshine. I have spoken to my dermatologist about adding in something along side it but he wants me to be patient for now. I might up the dose to 3 a day and see if that speed things up. But my dermatologist said its about timing. My biggest concern is are they working on me but as you wil here similar that gives me abit of hope. I think we have all figured that to maintain hair growth this treatment will have to be continued until a safer jak inhabitor comes to market and ultimatly a cure.

Predisolone works on me quicker than xeljanz but my Dr told me that's because pred suppresses the whole immune system.

You look fantastic Starshine and it must of been a great feeling hitting the salon ! I hope everyone keeps
Getting regrowth and maintenance of their hair until a cure comes out.

Singh.
You look fantastic Starshine.
Thanks ADML. Its been a year and 2 months. I wonder if I will ever get color back though, I am a little older, so maybe I won't. Either way, its hair and I'm not complaining. Are you still on 3 or did you go to 2, I don't remember. Would love to see new pics of you when you get time.
I'm on 2 currently and have been for a good while now. I've heard of a few cases that the hair grew back white and then slowly started to get darker. It's also possible it may stay that colour. Have you considered dying it? Will get some pics up soon!

ADL thank you for your good answer ..a question did you stay all time in 2 pills or you had up the dose in some times? and when you noted the fast regrowht just in first month or after?

Thank you very much if you can answer me.

Hey, yes completely normal. Losing a few hairs is nothing to worry about !

so now have you 100% hairs?

In body?

how many pills? Your health perfect?

Thank you Adm whitout you a lot of here never would have known about this cure...i'm in 6 weeks and i have a little regrowth(i was in au from 20 years)

Thanks ADML, I know it is normal to lose some hair due to the hair cycle, but I still get scared sometimes.  That will probably never go away.

Singh !!
are you on 2 pills a day ?!
