I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Heyy Katiegirl! Long time! I have inboxed you :)
Singh, I lost the phone that had your what's App number on it on Friday. I left it in an Uber car and the driver has not contacted me yet. I sent you a friend request, so we can pm each other again. I'm going to try to add What's App to another phone I have.
I am starting my 7 month on xeljanz...I do both the pills and topical...I had some initial growth about 2 months in...but I have steadily lost most of that hair...now it seems nothing is happening...needless to say I am disappointed in the results so far...and so is my doctor...she was so disappointed in the results that she wanted me to stop taking the pills and only do topical...I convinced her to let me continue the pills...my insurance covers 100% of the costs and will for the next 2 years...I am willing to take the pills until my insurance stops covering...but I am getting a little anxious to see some results
texas2016, not to get off topic, but I seen that you go to a dermatologist in Dallas. If this is correct, can you message me your dermatologist's contact information? I'm searching for a new dermatologist in Texas/Oklahoma.
I go to Texas dermatology associates in Dallas they at Baylor university hospital

Hi everyone,

i have never actually posted anything on any of the groups yet, this is my first post..

I have AU since 2010, so 6 yrs of AU and if i recollect correctly most of my hair fell out by 3 months ( October 2010)..

My parents are doctors, so we tried numerous options -  tonics, homeopathy, DNCB, minoxidil, lazer comb and what not.. about everything in the first 2-3 yrs.. but constant new hope and led down results kept pulling me down.. and i decided to take a break from treatments and somehow kept myself concentrating on just being unaffected by it and trying to be happy i guess..

I started with Xeljanz 4 months back and this my 4th month on Xeljanz. First bottle - 1 tablet a day from the second bottle onwards its now 2 tablets a day. No side effects yet, fell ill twice and had stopped tablets for roughly 5 days.

I am attaching photos of my progress so far..

Congratulations on your regrowth!

Nice hair growth. Did you ever try cyclosporine or methotrexate? I am a Nurse practitioner in Canada and have a 25 yr old son who quickly developed AU within a couple of mths. Are your parents medical physicians? I like them and trying to guide my son towards the safest but effective treatments. Cost is certainly an issue in Canada as Xeljanz is not covered even if he had medical benefits. Thanks for sharing,
