I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Congratulations Max you deserve it.
Hey ADML, how have u been? What is your progress lately? Thank you for starting this Discussion. It is the most informative on Alopecia World and has given so many hope with Xeljanz. I met one of my best friends on here. We chat everyday even tho we are in different countries and hopefully we will be meeting in person soon. All because of you! I hope you don't feel that "alopecia destroyed your life" anymore. God has used your thread to give all of us hope and inspiration. Most of us have full regrowth, are getting close to it or starting their journey with positive expectations. And we have you to thank! Love you for your endurance. It hasn't been emotionally easy for any of us, but your example of not giving up has motivated all of us to continue having faith. Thank you a million times! Below is my current hairstyle that I have been privileged to wear since June. My hair is long enough to braid in extensions. I went from "bare to here in the last year", lol! Hey Max! congratulations!!!! this gives me hope. I am on Xeljanz for almost a month and I have seen regrowth already. I am scared about the side effects. Have you experienced any side effects? how often you got blood work done?

Thank you for sharing

No I haven't noticed any important side effects nothing crazy and I get my blood work every three months and I'm healthy

I have been on Xeljanz for about a month as well and I am experiencing dark urine.  I haven't found out my results yet from my blood tests, but I am concerned.  My hair seems to be coming in and I would hate to stop taking it, but if this is affecting my liver I might have to stop.  Anyone else experiencing dark urine?
