I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

You said your daughter started xeljanz 1.5 year ago but only started to see good results last 6 months. Did your daughter take the medications for 1 year without seeing good results?
Hi guys I'm new, do you know if is it really only for alopecia areata?
it is for rheumatoid arthritis. used also off label for alopecia.
Thanks for your reply, but I would like to know if someone has got some results in other types of alopecia , I think in this forum They have used it only for alopecia areata or not?Because I have Read Many articLes that it works for areata but I don't believe that anyone didn't use for other types of alopecia
what kind of alopecia you have?
Someone told me telogen effluvium, someone androgenetic alopecia , someone alopecia for lack of estrogen, this Last doctor Said that androgenetic alopecia in women doesn't exist, but there's a lack of estrogen.Infact my hormonal tests are ok, I have a lack of Iron and some vitamins and minerals. But Many wome
n have a lack of Iron , I don't think that is it the reason of hairloss.I would like to try this medicine if the Side effects are rare. But I ask you if someone has tested this medicine for any types of alopecia or if there' a trial.
from what I know tofacitinib is for autoimmune related alopecia only.
I use it for RA and alopecia universalis. It does work!

Hi...I was just curious...did you have complete regrowth with Xeljanz?  Do you

experience any side effects?

I did get complete regrowth but then got an infection so had to go on antibiotics. I am allergic to two main antibiotics so it took two months to find the right one so unfortunately my hair all fell out again. You have to go off Xeljanz when you get infections as it will make it worst. I am back on it and it is starting to grow again. No other bad side affects and it is keeping RA stable. I started taking it in June this year.

Thanks for your response...I have one more question...do you think

your infection was related to Xeljanz?  I'm just trying to decide whether to

go on Xeljanz for AU.   I'm a little concerned about the side affects.
