I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Yes, my 19-year old daughter is having the same issues.  Full head of hair (pixie length now) and all regrowth of body hair/brows/eyelashes but she started shedding about a month ago. She's on 3 pills/day and has been on Xeljanz about 1.5 years. She was a slow responder but noted the biggest jump when she went to 3 pills.

My question for anyone would be has anyone had the shedding and its only temporary? I am hoping the shedding will reverse but haven't seen any posts where the shedding stopped? Anyone out there having these issues? Thanks!

My shedding completely stopped like 2 months after it started

Did the hair regrow or Did you have increase no. of pills per day...

It regrew ..I only take the once a day xeljanz but I take it about 3 times a week

Good to know that... reassuring... :)

Did you find you responded a little betterbto the xr (one a day) compared to the two 5mg a day?
They both were about the same the only diff that I notice now is that my hair feels different it's much thicker than before and doesn't feel as soft and fine as before ..

fake pills I am sure

Hi, my son is 7 years old with AU. and I am planning to start Xaljanz, is there any recommendations before we start the treatment for my son?
I will be thankful if anyone can give me the email address of Dr.King.

Thanks

Does Dr King respond to emails? He probabaly receives tons..
Your son is too young for Xeljanz. Sorry.

Even with a smaller dose? the physician can modify it based on weight and age
