I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Your hair looks fabulous. Thank you for sharing about your treatment, which is encouraging!
Wow - your hair is fantastic. May I ask how long it took for you to notice growth. I'm into my fourth month and while there have been subtle changes- thin white stubble on head and eyelashes, etc it's a bit underwhelming- I'm terrified I'm not a responder... the changes are so minor at this stage. My doc says to give it time and we will do some steriod pulsing to kick it along....it's so hard being patient.
I’ve posted around the 15th of the month every month I started treatment- so click on my name and you’ll see all my pictures. The back of my head filled in within 6 months and the top took longer, maybe 9 months. Mine started as white stubble, too. Keep being hopeful!

Will you reduce the dose of drug ?  I think I start with 10 mg daily.if my hair completely grow up drug will be reduce to 5 mg daily. Can I keep the disease under control like this ?

I’m staying on 20mg until my doctor advises otherwise. I get my blood checked every 3 months.

I understand.Your hair looks very beautiful.Do you pay for the drug or does the state pay ? ?

Hardship
Good for you, so happy it’s working for you, I’m around same time as you lost it AU around 2 years, been on xeljanz for a year but really had results when I went to 20mg a day. I have regrowth not as thick but not hairless smooth skin. Did your hair continue to get thicker?
Anyone know how katiegirlis doing ? I know she had a baby in June and was off the meds.. hoping all is good
question to all experts with xeljanz. Just wondering is xeljanz an immunosuppressant or is jak inhibtor something else?
Janus kinase is an enzyme
Tofacitinib is blocking the action of this.
By blocking it, it reduce or stop the inflammation.
Difference between xeljanz and barticinib and ruxolitinib is the pathway, 1,2,3...
By blocking the pathways it is an immunosuppresor.
To answer the other question about losing hair/inflammation/ scalp biopsy, not all alopecians have same level of inflammation. The more inflammation you have before your treatment the better the chances of success. C reactive protein can be verified in your blood work.
thank you so much
