I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.
I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.
Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.
The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.
I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

JG, it took me about 6 months to get to.some.decent coverage. The bright side is you are responding! I am 8 months in and near 100% keep your head up!
Thank you, Newjack! I am getting into dark place sometimes in desperation to get rid off wig and burn it:) i want to ask if it makes sense to increase a morning dosage to 10 mg? I started doing so two days ago and got Herpes on my lip today. So I don’t know if i should just give it time to progress on 10 mg or increase it to 15 mg a day? I am AU since 2016
I did increase it to 15 and my doctor was happy with the progress with standard dose but did say up it to 15 of.you are impatient (uhhh yes!!!)
I had similar results as you, it was coming back, but patchy,.just needed to patient.
But once I added the 5 mg, it.did make a difference. I'd discuss with your doctor. I will be weening down back to the normal dose soon for maintenance since nearly all my hair is back
I am in Switzerland. Majority of doctors are not aware what this drug is. Those who know saying i am crazy to do it “just for hair “. So i am self medicating. Just going for blood work to my family doctor. Thank you again for support! I have nobody to consult here.
Not crazy at all!
I feel like my old self again, xeljanz it absolutely worth it!

using Minoxidil 5%, Elocom0,1% will help for empty patches as well Lumigan isimha for eyebrow and eyelash
Any advices regarding using the medication while fever and cold is there?
plz share your advises
Hi Mashloum- sorry not to respond sooner. Hopefully your son has recovered. I looked at the instruction pamphlet and it said to stop until illness is over. I don’t think one or two days off would set him back and it would probably help him recover sooner. Hope he is better and his hair looks great! It’s starting to come in really well!
Thank you Frida, he is fine now and doing well after fever. he already started again for a half tablet for the first day, and then two half per day (morning, night)
I will perform the LAB next week, and the also preparing to give him the flue injection (every 6 months), but shall I stop the medication to give him the injection?
Really thank you Frida for your advice and support for this discussion, it leads changes for many people looking for a light!
