I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Can anyone give me the latest update on the pre-reqs for the co-pay card? Is it just as easy as download it, go to pharmacy with a script from your doctor (once the hard part of finding a doc to prescribe)? My insurance has denied Xeljanz, so now am looking into copay option to try it out for rest of the year. Then looking to switching insurances for next year to see if I can get more covered. But this would let me try it for a few months before having to do that (open enrollment for me is later this year).

Gatesm, My mail in pharmacy just signed me up for the copay card. They didn't ask me anything about income or any other prerequisites. That pharmacy is Acredo. Good Luck my friend!

Xelsource told me today they can only do the co-pay card if your insurance approves the medication. Is that correct?

I've send  friend request to user Anna. Please accept and answer some questions from me? I am Montreal also.

Ok guys I need a bit of help. I was gonna get Xeljanz awhile back but one of the only rheumatologist in our area got shut down. I was wondering, are rheumatologist the only doctors that can prescribe Xeljanz? I tried a derm but was unable to.

Mine is a derm

Hi CWS how is your regrowth coming along? I remember you was one of the first people to try xeljanz.

I am happy with it. I never got all my leg hair back and still have some resistance on my head but I am fine with what I got. I am trying a maintenance of one 5mg pill a day. So far that seems to be working. I had a small dime size spot show up on my head and it filled back in within a few weeks.

It's just crazy that ALL my chest, facial and arm hair are back but have resistance on my legs and head.

That is great CWS, are you comfortable to walk out the house? I personally would be bs that bothered by not having much leg hair as long as everywhere else filled in.

Some interesting new developments are on the horizon, its just waiting for one to be approved!

I have no problems with my current results.  I too look forward to the new on-label JAK meds for alopecia to come out. They are Fast Tracked by the FDA in the US so hopefully they will be available globally just as soon.
