I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Hey Smitty,

Discussed this only very briefly, but from what I gathered treatment duration varies by patient. Some can taper off slowly, while others need to maintain dose...so no big news here.

I asked about his thoughts on generic Tofacitinib from Beacon. He didn't seem to be familiar with it, but maybe for legal reasons...which I understand.

You can order tofacitinib without a prescription on this beacon? If so, may I have a link to this page?

You have to email:

shamiul@beaconmedicare.com.bd

Just email asking to order Tobacitinib and they will send you a follow up email providing you all the details on the process.

how much does it cost? is it expensive?

From the email they sent.

Tofacinix 5mg (Generic name: tofacitinib) is available at a price of USD 15 per box 30 tablet.

Tofacinix 11 mg (Generic name: tofacitinib) is available at a price of USD 27 per box 30 tablet

Shipping is $65 per order and then you have to pay your bank a fee for the wire transfer.

In Brazil, we have a generic xeljanz called Citrato de Tofacitinibe.

I ve been taking it has been 01 month and 11 days.. it costs like 50 dollars the 5 mg, 60 tablets.

Hi Carol.  Have you seen any growth yet?  I started to take the Beacon generic 6 days ago!

i didn´t see any results yet. but it takes normally 3-4 months to work.

Carol - that’s very interesting! I’m discovering more and more generics though most from Bangladesh (last count 5 seperate companies - though Beacon are the pro’s when it comes to buying from overseas and have been tested)... This is super encouraging as it will mean more and more people can access the treatment if they want!  Hopefully when the patent expires it will become cheaper for people to get it in country.  Hope to hear more of your hair growth and journey. It takes awhile to get started so don’t be discouraged if you don’t see results even up to 6 months.

hi Dj88, I think people already answered re cost- it’s a reasonably straight forward process though they can take awhile to get back to you so just send them more emails until they respond. Although you can get it without a script I would encourage you to try to monitor your blood whilst on it, or at least at the beginning. Most people cope very well with t but some have issues and the only way to know sometimes is by checking blood results. Even if your doctor refuses to prescribe - try to get blood tests independently.

Beacon has come back with a pretty close amount of active ingredient to the xeljanz brand so it is a very feasible option if you are looking to do this treatment. I just hope soon doctors will have a better understanding of Jaks and thus be more willing to prescribe them. It seems easy to get a script for methotrexate or cyclosporine - which frankly are much worse to be on and are blanket immune suppressants.

let us know how you go with beacon. Email usually works but sometimes a phone call follow up might get the ball rolling...

I second that about Dr. King. Best doctor I have ever seen. Really cares about the patients. Indeed he is busy. The waiting time for my first visit was 4 months.

I dont understand why people compromise their immune system instead of controlling it with diet and supplement ..almost every unnatural chemical  is harmful for body ppl in west dont realise this ...i m in med export and depandacy of med specially in usa ppl is disturbing

I had severe alopecia and AU for 15 years but i got my 90% hair back with cupping therapy and avoiding omega 6 rich foods ( including refined oil ) and natural supplement like omega 3 and pro biotics

These doctor will NEVER EVER TELL YOU YOU CAN HEAL YOURSELF ALMOST FULLY FROM AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE THROUGH HEALTHY DIET AND SUPPLEMENT .

Our 80% immune system lives in stomach so why not take care of it

I am sorry to say but you guys just want a pill...i used Jak  med for 1 year but got sick two times then i realized i dont need this sht !

Keep taking your pill instead of solving the main issue which is diet

A natural body free of chemicals has a hormany

I still have tofacitinib sitting at my shelf since last 6 month and i regret even ordering it

Pills this that ..keep being slave of medicine industry they dont want to " heal " you i can gaurantee that
