James if you are a man why dont you just go bald. There are lots of men who go bald even when they dont have alopecia. Do you have any pics of yourself you can post so we all can see what you look like?

Hi: My name is Jim I'm 37 years old and have had Alopecia Areata since the age of 9 ... I was looking to meet new people who have ( or had ) Alopecia Areata or Any Alopecia ... I have had trouble @ work and school due to my Alopecia and would like to make friends w/ people who would understand what I'm going through. I'm a Seventh-day Adventist and I have a full human hair wig ( or should I say hair piece????) that I wear for church/work/school etc ... But most of the time I just wear a baseball cap around the house... And because of my faith I don't like to tell rude people to go to hell when they harass me about the Alopecia ...I'm single and don't date much because of the alopecia ... Friends tell me that people don't love us for our hair and I feel thats true but I have had a hard time meeting women with alopecia ... If anyone would like to talk about this please let me know. Thanks for your understanding . God bless! (JIm K.)

Hi, my name is Amal I’m 25 years old and a new mother of an amazing baby girl. I’m here because this is my second time dealing with alopecia :( unfortunately. The first time I had it I was treated with steroid injections which worked, but I’ve come to learn that there is no cure for this condition. I guess now that it’s back :( it’s time for me to accept it as a part of my life & something that will always be with me. :( I have to say this is proving to be very difficult for me. So I guess I’m here to get some support and to learn how to feel more comfortable in my skin. Any advice or stories on how you’ve been dealing with your AA? Thank you in advance :)

I'm new too...I had my first episode with AA in August of 2007, which began the end of my marriage. I'm getting divorced now, and also going through my second episode. It's more stressful to me to wonder when it's going to fall out than be bald, so I think I'm just going to shave it off from here on. But, boy, I need to get better at it, cuz I have a few nicks on my head that really hurt! I read about the warm towel, shaving cream, lotion, etc. so I'll have to try that. I think the one thing that really scares me is finding a man that will be okay with it. I don't want anything serious right now, I'm in the middle of a not-so-nice divorce so I'm a little jaded. But it would be nice to know that someone out there thinks I'm cute! We'll see...Right now, I'm just looking for friends like me.

I went through that and more with the multi-site injections. Finally, the pain was too much that I began avoiding my dermatologist altogether. I'm a new shaver so thanks for the tips; it worked great and I feel even better :)
