Thanks Emma! I wear a scarve at night without my wig but I really not sure if he notices there is no hair underneath. He has never said anything. But I probably do need to talk to him and explain. He is bound to notice sooner or later.

hi melea, i know what you mean my daughter is 11yrs old she found my first patch and is aware as she can be about aa, but im worried when i do lose my hair (at the mo i can hide it) what reaction she will get at school i have spoke to her about it and after a few tears she agreed she was scared she was gonna get bullied or something like that.. im so worried about it i dont want to add extra pressure or embrassment to her .. its not just the person with alopecia that gets effected its the kids ..
i think maybe your scared to tell your 6yrs old cos he is older but you would be suprised how understanding kids are i'd just have some one to one time and explain it to him the best you can ..
hope it helps emma x

Hi all! How is everyone? I have had AA since the age of 3. At age 16 I lost all of my hair on my head. It grew back about 2 years later. About 10 months ago it started falling out in full force again.I shaved my head. Not much there left to hold onto anyway. Now I wear a wig. Some days I just want to walk around without it. But have yet to find the courage. I work in an outside sales position and know that everyone would look at me different. I know I shouldn't care. right? But I guess I do. I have a 6 year old son. He does not know about my condition. I struggle everyday to "hide" it from him. And sometimes I wonder why? Is he old enough to understand? My 2 year old son has seen me without it. Doesn't bother him. So why is it so hard for me to tell my 6 year old?

Lol, yeah, like right where male pattern baldness occurs anyway? Instead of at the base of the nape of your neck and a nice golfball sized one to the right of the crown? Thats what Ive got. Looks pretty bad.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Jenn. I keep thinking, if its bad for me, I cant imagine what you women have to endure.
As of now, Ive given up caring what people think and just do what I do no matter what. It been better since that decision.

sorry about that dave. it seems that it is hard for men too because no one believes it or they just say to shave it off. with women everyone knows that we are not going to just shave off our hair. keep your head up there are a lot of people here that know what you are going through.

Im Dave, and like Jax, Ive had off and on hair loss with itchiness and sometimes it grows back thin and white, so I shaved it off, short at first which shows where the patches are. it looked like i botched my own shaving job, and work gave me a lot of crap over it, because they thought i did it to myself. That hurt a lot, so I shaved it off all the way and got even more crap for it. I had to go to my general Manager to explain. It seems better, but they still think I did it myself. I am at the point that I dont care, I just keep shaving and ignoring it.
