Hi, Zelda - thank you so much for responding! This morning, I sent my daughter (Kristin) the link to Alopecia World, as well as Mr. Aycock's contact info. I will send her your email address now. Thank you for your kind support!
Hi, all! I am the grandmother ("Mimi") of a recently diagnosed, amazing & beautiful, 5 year old girl. Are there any support groups in the Gwinnett/Walton areas? Would love for My Babygirl to find AA friends...and, I think her Mama could use some support, too.
Dag nab it! (LOL!)
I would have love to come, but I committed to two events on Saturday already. I will continue to check out the Atlanta group for future get together dates.
Hi, just wanted to say hello after joining the Atlanta group. I would love to put together a gathering for fellowship with others that have Alopecia. If anyone would like to get this thing together just let me know.
Hi everybody! Support group meeting this Saturday at 4pm. Fulton County Library (Northside branch). I just sent an email to everyone in this group with more info.
Hello Everyone! I have been a member to this site for quite a while, but remained silent. Lately, I have come across so many AMAZING people going through various bouts of hair loss for many different reasons. Personally, I have lived with Alopecia for 13 years now. I started losing my hair in patches, was diagnosed with Androgenetic Alopecia, and now it's all gone. I tried various treatments for about "2 seconds" but just didn't have it in me emotionally or financially to keep up with everything being prescribed I do and take. Maybe it was vanity that won out - I much rather prefer spending the money on wigs and clothes to make myself feel better. And I can honestly say that I pretty much feel the same way today. My hair had always been thin and frail, so I felt like losing it all may not have been such a bad thing. Now I could have the beautiful, full, thick hair I had never had before. In any case, I just want you all to know that I think you are something very special and beautiful - just as you are. I have started a social meetup group here in NW Atlanta (Woodstock Area) for anyone who would like to come out and hang with some Bald & Fabulous people! Message me here if you would like more information.
I just joined, so glad to find this. My 14 y.o. daughter was diagnosed almost a year ago. We have not tried a red light therapy (I will have to ask about it on our next visit). The shots helped only where the injection was and only for a short time. The one thing that has helped is cyclosporine, we had significant hair regrowth for 3 months while she was on the medication. Once she stopped taking it, it started falling out again. So we went back to injections, and it got worse. So, we are now on the cyclosporine again and hoping it will help again. But we won't know for sure until she comes off it again.
Doesn't look like there has been much activity here for a while. My 15 y.o. daughter was diagnosed last week. The dermatologist is recommending injections and a red light therapy. I was wondering if anyone had success with these treatments...she has a large spot on the side of her head and the lower third of her hair in the back is gone....the dermatologist also noticed two new small spots last week. We are going to the Womens Center at Northside to see a wig specialist on Monday....
I live near the douglasville area and there is a beauty supply store here that has a lady who will cut your wig in the store. I don't know how comfortable mnay people would be with it. I did it once and it worked out pretty well.
