Praise the Lord everyone.
My daughter has had au for almost 2 years and I said why did this have to happen to her. She is such a sweet and beautiful girl. I don't understand why God chose her. I know God has a reason why we go through the things he allows to happen to us. I know it is for his glory. My daughter is 10 years old and prays the Lord will restore her hair double and I am so blessed that she doesn't blame God or that she is not angry that this has happened to her. I had a harder time dealing with it than she did. It gets hard sometimes to keep my faith up when it seems like God isn't listening. I know God is good and merciful and he is the Almighty Healer. Sometimes it is just hard to have faith when everything looks so bleak. Keep me in your prayers. God bless you for this site:)

Hi everyone,
I'm very happy to join this wonderful group at a time like this. I've had alopecia for about four years now. Living with alopecia is indeed very challenging but God has promised never to leave us nor forsake us.

Wow, this has been encouraging, thanks! I know I could use some prayer for this as lately has been kind-of a down time, feeling unattractive, like its obvious to everyone, particularly to guys. Has been very up and down since it happened 5 years ago or so. Pray that I'd see myself as I know our God sees us!

Michelle and Gail the comment about jewelry reminded me of a teaching I did about a year ago. We are called to be His bride! In ancient Israel the bridegroom prepared the wedding (we've got it all backwards today). All the bride had to do was be prepared! She prepared her trousseau and her jewels! Our jewels are the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faith and self-control. They are our most glittering assets, the very thing that marks us claimed by Christ, like a wedding ring!

The bride didn't know when her bridegroom was coming, she had to be prepared. "In my Father's house there are many rooms...I go to prepare a place for you so where I am you may also be." The bride generally knew about when her bride was coming because it hinged on their household being ready, but the exact moment would be unknown until the triumphal wedding procession with the groom and his friends paraded through the streets causing a ruckus. Everyone knew that the bridegroom was coming!

So shall it be on the triumphal return of our Lord. So like the 5 wise virgins, trim your wicks, have extra oil, and wait expectantly for the great Bridegroom to come and claim his Bride! And don't forget your jewels!

I have had alopecia totalis for 15 years with no sign of hair regrowth. It hasn't been easy but it certainly could be worse. I have been learning that it's what's inside that counts, not our looks. We all have handicaps but I am thankful I can think, walk, talk, etc. and especially that I can have relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. He has been very good to me and has drawn me closer to Himself, especially lately, through His Holy Spirit, His Word, the Bible, and the fellowship of other believers. Do I wish sometimes that I had hair. Of course but He has allowed this affliction and I know He has a purpose in it. When I get sad about the situation, I just remember those facts and ask for His peace and help.

Ladies, let me add my own two cents worth here. As Christians we know that God doesn't cause our suffering, but He allows it because it to draw us closer to Himself. All pain and suffering, disease, death, disaster and destruction is a result of sin in the world. I'm not saying it's a result of your personal sin, but we all have that sin component, but when sin entered the world that fateful day in Eden, all bets were off. The prince of the age, Satan, roams freely and and causes havoc.

Satan's greatest areas to attack us are in our health, our finances, and our sexuality. Job suffered in all three areas. His health was failing, he lost his considerable fortune, and even his wife mocked him before she was taken too. But hear this from Luke 22:

31 And the Lord said,[c] “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

Here we see that, like Job, Satan had to ask permission to attack one of God's own. God in His infinite wisdom knows that these attacks bring about growth for us...but He is sovereign and can alter Satan's plans. What if Satan's original plan was a serious or even deadly attack on your health and God gave you alopecia? We do not understand the ways of God, but know in His loving kindness He hears your cries and He wants you to grow closer to Himself.

Love,
Andrea

Kathleen, I agree with Libby in that God gives us each our own path to follow in Him. I have bee hairless for 25 yrs and have struggled to the point of throwing my life away on drugs and alcohol to try and run from the pain. I sit here today free in HIM!! He delivered me from my addictions and has helped me to see Him in my hairless life. He will never leave us in our struggles, He does not cause our struggles, the sinful world we live in does that. The Lord has impressed on me that to see myself on the outside as ugly and abnormal goes against His idea of beauty. The Word of God says that "man looks on the outward appearance, but God lools on the heart." Kathleen, God cares how we feel and how we look, but He cares more how we allow Him to help us feel and how our heart looks. My alopecia has shown me that I have had a critical view of others rather than the loving accepting way the Lord would have us feel, you know? He wants us to prosper in spirit and learn to love Him because He loves us so much and give that love to a hurting world around us and I believe as we face hurts and struggles we have a better understanding of how much He loves us and hurts for us. We have to "let it go" and allow Him to change us on the inside regardless of the outside, soooooooooooooo hard I know, honey, He loves you so much! being thankful for baldness is a great big hard thing, but I promise you as you seek His face in His Word not your hair, He will give you all you need to face "one day at a time". I will be in prayer for you that the Lord wrap His loving arms around you and give you peace and strength to face the everyday in this life that HE truly has given us to be a blessing. Paul says in, 2Corinthians 12:9 that HIS strength is made perfect in our weakness, how weak we feel in alopecia? HE knows and HE cares, if you can look up Isaiah 41:10 and Isaiah 55 and Romans 8:28 and allow the Lord to comfort your heart even in the midst of your anger toward Him, He will be your help. Blessings on you today!! Lori

Kathleen,

I was in the same position you are in now when I was a teenager. I can't tell you how many tears and prayers were spilled. I used to see my alopecia as a curse but now I count it as a blessing. I sincerely believe that I am a better person because of it. I don't pray for hair now. I pray for the strength and courage to face the world. I am not saying that this is how you should overcome your struggle.....we each have our own path to walk. I tell am telling you this so that you can see the flip side of having this condition. I have come to understand and believe that God doesn't will something to happen to us but that God works with us and through us in what struggles we have.

Take care,
Libby
