I was reading on another group a post by a lady who had lichen planopillaris. She asked her dermatologist to try Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy after no success with other treatments. She posted pics of her regrowth. Her hair loss was different than ours (top of her head).

Just curious if anyone has heard of this or has tried it?

I just had it done last week during shoulder surgery, it is supposed to be excellent at promoting healing in tendons for tears/surgery, they recommend that you do not take nsaids because they want to promote inflammation so the PRP will attack the inflammation- interesting stuff, people are even using it now as an option instead of surgery for tendon tears.

Though, in retrospect, I should have asked them to give me a dose for my FFA while they were at it! :-D

Hope you are on the mend, Minter! Here's to a speedy recovery. :)

I've been looking on the internet and the cost is kind of steep. Here in the Seattle area it ranges from $1000-2800. Yikes.

Ouch! That is a lot of dough for something that may or may not work!

and thank you, it is my dominant arm that had the bum shoulder so it has been a learning curve trying to do everything with opposite arm :-/

Oh wow Agneta, I'm sorry you had to go through this with no good result at all, this is a horrible disease that makes us desperate at times :-(

I agree with Agneta. Do NOT waste your money on PRP for FFA. One of the leading PRP docs in Sarasota Florida spared me from going down that road once he saw my hair loss. He knew I Had FFA just my looking at me and told me he would not even try it with me because he knew it wouldn’t help. It was after this I had my FFA confirmed by a dermatologist and made the decision not to use medication but get a semi permanent bonded hair piece. I’ve never looked back since then and have accepted this weird condition for what it is. I am grateful every day for my “hair”.
Hi all! I went through 5 sessions of PRP. Every time brought on more hair loss. I have also been taking Celebrex for 2 years. Someone mentioned NSAIDS.
