So...not wanting to jinx myself, but I might be in a period of burn out with FFA. I was diagnosed through biopsy about three years ago and I had hair loss/scaley bumpy rash all along my front hairline and also at the nape. I have also lost almost all body hair including eyebrows and even a lot of my eyelashes. I had scalp injections one time but they left horrible marks and I didn't see much improvement. I have never taken any other medications for this disease simply because I don't react well to a lot of various medicines. I am also not on any special diet. About a year ago I noticed that the rash and inflammation at my nape started to clear and I felt then that I might have burnout at least in the back. I have not had any hair loss back there since. I also decided to stop dying my hair at the salon a year ago and chose to do mild at home dying kits instead to just cover the gray. I also changed out all of my makeup and moisturizers to NOT include sunscreen. With these two changes, I have seen the most improvement. About three months ago the scaley/pimply rash is completely gone in the front now and I have stopped losing hair.( I had the inflammation/rash along my front hairline for three solid years). I also feel that I am getting some regrowth at my part line but not anywhere else. I don't know if this is a permanent burn out or just a tantalizing freeze for now, but thought I would share. There seems to be such little information on actual burnout, I'm not sure if it is an elusive dream. For now, I am simply hoping.

Yay!!! Congratulations!! Knocking on wood for you. Interesting about the sunscreen which some have mentioned- my skin is so fair and I’m already as wrinkled as I care to be, so I’m not there yet. But am unsure if I want to be more agressive with medicines since what I’m doing already seems to have no effect. Thank you for sharing your success : )
Thank you Halfbakedwho! I am cautiously optimistic. Giving up salon hair color was an easy decision but sunscreen was a bit harder. I live in Texas and it is always very sunny. I mostly wear hats now outdoors and if I do wear sunscreen it is only very small amounts away from my hairline. When I went through my products and makeup I realized I was putting on sunscreen three or four times a day in different products! I think it was overkill. So now I only apply it (in one product) only if I'm outside for awhile. I do worry about sun damage, but maybe it was just too much?? I guess I will never know, and I could see this flare up again. But for now, I guess I'm glad with this decision to use it in very small doses.
Nothing wrong with being cautiously optimistic! I hope it has burned out for you lynetter and it is good news your rash has cleared up too. Your story is another reminder to be aware of sunscreens in all the different products we put on our skin. Congratulations :-)
