So I've recently noticed that my original bald patches are showing some new growth, but the hairs have NO pigment! They're not just grey (believe me, I have a TON of grey hair, and this is different!), they're almost invisible because they're so white. Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, I shaved my head almost 3 weeks ago, so my hair's getting long (ha! relatively long, that is) now. I would like to shave it again to keep it all the same length in hopes that the other patches start to grow new hair, but I'm worried about shaving the regrowth - like it will jinx it or something. Just looking for some input from anyone who has experienced regrowth, and whether it was particularly fragile hair or not! Thanks!

I've been in your shoes actually I still am in certain areas.
After I went AU all my hair was coming in white to translucent in color. This lasted for about a year. After that the dark started to come back. I still have 8 or so patches with this semi translucent color.
I wouldn't worry about shaving it I did all the time with an electric shaver.
Hope this helps.

i am in the exact same boat! i shaved my head about 3 weeks ago and have kept shaving it in the hopes that it will all grow back in at the same time and be the same length. but i started noticing what i thought were blonde hairs growing back in place of my normally dark brown hair. so i now have patches of NO hair, dark brown, and tiny little blonde (or i guess probably no pigment hair). needless to say, not happy about the way my head looks.

This is common. My dermatologist says it is just what happens in people with alopecia. Makes it easier to ID the new growth though!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate hearing that it's common - and especially that I can just shave it without worrying. :)

Somegirl - I have patches of no hair, patches of this weird colourless hair, and the remaining hair is about 50% (or more) grey! I feel like I look like an old lady, and I'm only 33! I guess weird hair is better than no hair, but I'm hoping that my dark hair (or at least grey, because unpigmented won't accept dye) will come back like JeffreySF's.

Hey Jaclyn! My son has some regrowth as well and it is growing back as you said; very light and white. We did shave his regrowth and YES it does grow back but for some reason not as fast as his "normal" hair so we just keep reshaving. Hope this helps.

I am glad I found this I am new to all of this and I have new growth and it is very white also I havent been brave enough to shave my head yet but I think I might have to soon.

Annette, I know I may be the exception to the rule, but I wanted to give you some hope: As soon as I shaved my head the falling out stopped, and regrowth began immediately. It came in white initially, but after a few months the white was replaced with my normal colour (okay, and some stray gray hairs, too!), and I ended up having ALL my hair grow back after about 4 months.

Well thank you for replying It sounds like shaving all the left over hair is a good thing I hope your hair is growing back good I have been talking silica compond tablets which strengthens hair and nails my nails are extremly strong after 6 weeks of taking them so hoping new hair grown will benifit from the tablets as well.

I too lost all my hair and the regrowth was as white as snow then grey very gray. I have 99.9% regrowth I wont shave my head again untill its a couple of inches long. I have been given a new product called Activance with Rhodanide hair stimulant Google it the results are amazing it's not cheap $55.00 for 200mls but it;s working for me. Good luck
