Hi Renee-

We live in MN, as well. Our daughter is almost 11, but is on her third round of hair loss. We bought a wig at Sunny's in Minneapolis, they were helpful but not sure if they are the best. When we are sure Signe wants to continue with wigs, we may head to a place called DK International in Chaska (or Chanhassen)...

Have you connected with the Alopecia group in the Twin Cities? We are going to a gathering next week at a Timberwolves game - it will be our daughters first time being with kids who are experiencing AA.

No I haven't yet. i told my daughter about the game and she wasn't to interested in it. I was though I tried to talk her into it but no go. I think she is still not very comfortable with her hair loss yet, at least not in public. In school she is fine but anywhere else she is not. Thanks for the help I will check it out. Renee

Hi Renee,

Do you know about the hair club for kids? They give 3 free wigs a year and 8 free services for kids 6-17. Even if your insurance pays for a really nice one the hair club one is free is nice and good for doing sports and stuff where the hair may get abused. You can even swim in it. www.hairclub.com. My daughter wore this wig for 1 yr and liked and many girls on this board wear their wigs. Sam's hair has grown back in case you were wondering why she does not wear it anymore.

We did/do hair club for kids. Boo usually prefers not to wear a wig, but he has it for when he wants it. I just let him lead, and he decided that he'd rather be bald than have to stick the wig on for hours on end. He started out the year wearing it in the morning and then taking it off at lunch, and after a while he kind of figured out that was pointless:)

William is 8, though. 11... almost middle school. I would think that could be whole different situation. But you'd still qualify for Hair Club, and we've been happy with that. Just make sure to ask for the tape. Ours had never had a child before and were all ready to superglue it to his head for 8 weeks or whatever it is. THAT wasn't going to work!!!

I'll check into hair club...it sounds like a great arrangement. Sig's first wig is starting to look rather worn after just 4 weeks. Thanks for all the great advice here!

Rylie just got her first wig through Hair Club in Feb. We love that place...they are so good to her. They do see a lot of kids, but she is the youngest...we got the paperwork on her 6th B-day and you have to be 6 to get a wig. She has worn it a few times, but would rather go without. I'm sure that will change with time...she is only 6.
