Hi! My 13 year old daughter was diagnosed with AA last week. Our first dermatologist visit is Monday. Do you have any suggestions for what to ask about? Treatment options? Thank you all, and I am so glad you are here.

Saida, nutrition seems to be a key for Gracie as well. Every time we stop supplementing iron, her hair gets worse--lots worse (we have blood tests to confirm she is defecient in her iron stores--not anemic). I also supplement her w/ Carnation--she wont do pediasure--and I do think it helps. Her weight is up, her iron is good, and her hair looks really good right now, only a few spots and she has Ophasis pattern. Her derm said it may not be the cause, but deficiencies certainly are a stress on the system and may make it worse.

I was giving my daughter pediasure shakes, gummy bear multi vitamines and vitamin D, because she lost a lot of weight, about a month ago i stoped the shakes since she is back to her normal weight she still takes the vitamins when we remember, anyways i noticed a lot of new spots on the hair that she has left, i think that the vitamines and shakes were helping with the hair loss, we're going back to our old rutine who knows it may work

Hello everyone. My daughter started loosing her hair in Nov. 09. I took her to Childrens hospital in Denver and she is also getting the shots in her scalp. I have to put a topical cream to numb the areas that she might be getting the injections. Since her last round-3 weeks ago, most of her hair has fallen out and the little that she had, we shaved. Her Dr. wants to see the areas that are growing back. For now she is bald with a few stubs growing in. I am not sure when this is going to go into remission and have her long locks come back. Just wanted to make a comment.

I went to the Westshore Mall (Tampa) this past Saturday and within 15 minutes, and two different stores, I met 2 children with alopecia. The little boy was universalis and the young lady was areata/totalis. Alopecia is definitely more prevalent than we realize, but it goes by unnoticed because many hide their heads in shame or people think they have cancer or something.

Saida,
I didn't notice blinking a lot when Boo lost his. If your girl's goes like his, you won't be left wondering too long. Good luck:)

I think my little girls is starting to loose her eyebrows :( one looks a lot thinner than the other one, she also complains that she has to blink a lot i wonder if she's also loosing her eye lashes i can't really tell, is the blinking a lot a simpton? i was hoping at least she would be able to keep her eye lashes and brows.
