I was judge all my life because of my looks, as a child, it was obvious I wore a wig, and I was teased beyond reality, that is my horrific childhood,,,my mother just said, "children are cruel" I lost jobs, wannabee friends, and even today, I'm judged. When I parked my wig, and put the tat on my head, some of my fmaily was very unsupportive, and I can tell when I am in public, that they shy away, because others are looking at me. I say---Shame on them.
Others in my life, are protective, they love me, and if I'm being judged, and dare they make any comment, would be a sad sad day in their life.
Anna, I can not look at your video because I had dail up, but will be hooking up to satilite this week, and would love to see it. Congratulations girl, we need more teens like you, you make a difference to this world. I have no doubt your family must be very proud of you. I look forward to chatting with you. Brightest of Blessings

Way to go! Children are the best people to educate about alopecia! I read that same poem to my support group, it is very effective!! Keep it up! :)

Life is so full of struggles sometimes, and it takes a lot of courage to face up to those things when all the world is mocking in their ignorance. Good for you for having done this! This isnt the only disorder I have to deal with, and all of them are difficult and misunderstood and they all take quite a bit of courage to face, not to mention having the courage to stand up and tell all of your class what its like to have them.
I struggle with alcoholism, depression and Alopecia which just showed up over the last few years. Plus the added nuisance of allergies and asthma. Having spoken to all your class does a couple things- 1. You publicly acknowledge your illness and 2. You set yourself free.
I admire your courage. Great job!

Bravo Anna, I am very proud of you for doing what you did. I lost my hair at 13 and did not have the courage to stand up in front of my school and give such a speech. It took me several (many) years to finally get to the point that I didn't care what people thought of me, that this was me take it or leave it. The sooner we get people to realize that appearance is not everything, that we need to look deeper, many things in this world would change. Forty years ago it was the color of a person's skin that made people stop and stare (and in some places it still is), now it's women w/o hair, body piercings, tattoos, etc. Keep speaking up and out.

Anna, just what we needed! This is an important message, a lot of times we want cures and this digs even deeper. Meaning whether we grow our hair back or not, we are acceptable and valuable and should not experience discrimination based on our appearance. I can tell you that once this message is understood by society , alopecia will be reduced to what it really is - just be hair loss. It would not be connect to shame or hiding or any of the other consequences that people desperate try to avoid because of pre-judgements.
