Well welcome to the Golden club, I too turned 50 in November of last year...I've known about and accepted my alopecia for a while now, what else can you do? I'm also going thru the Big "M" which is not fun while wearing these wigs with silicon..One day I will be Bold to just go Bald...
Lexi, many graying women dye their hair at our age, so I pick wigs that are blond tri-colored strands but with dark roots (called shadow shades) to match my brunette eyebrows. No one thinks these are wigs because of the darker roots, and many ask where I got my hair done. See Raquel Welch "Breeze" and "Embrace" in those colors. The "Embrace" is younger-looking and longer, and I had mine trimmed when the ends got ratty. See my pix on my page. In the birthday lunch photo I wore the cropped "Embrace." The Porsche photos show the "Breeze" when it was new in 2010, but I still wear it even now! Age appropriate!
Chris for hair, thanks so much. Now to get up the courage to say "F--k it" and just DO IT!!!
Lexi, From what I have seen of your posts, you are a bright, capable woman that has great critical thinking skills and knows exactly what will and what will not work for you.
I think you need to trust yourself more, and go for whatever makes you feel great. There are many similarities I "hear" between you and myself, and in my life I just had to say "f---k it. I look better in this wig and I don't care what others think..."
Trust yourself, you have great insight.
I have been looking for a new wig, either synthetic or HH for the longest time. Mostly because I have a closet full of wigs I have never worn, or seldom worn, or are just not for me...anymore. I have come to realize that a part of the issue is that I don't know who I am anymore. When I was even at 56 - it was like I thought in my head that I was 30 yrs. old. Now I realize full well, I am not young anymore, even though I still no way look my age. I have a hard time looking at clothing even, and all my clothes are Jrs. I feel like I dress in kids clothing now. It never used to bother me. I felt I was that age. No one thinks I am as old as I am, maybe now they think I am 48-50 tops. Anyway, back to hair. I don't even know what I am supposed to look at in wigs? What styles should I look at? A lot of what I still like, seems too young for me. I am lost.
Thanks Tallgirl, I get that a lot. I have a 29 year old son, 23 year daughter and a 5 year old grandson.
You are right, Angela. You look 28-35.
Hello everyone, I am new to this group. I may not look 50, but I will be 51 in February.
Then there is the having to deal with other old people who get mean, nasty and rude in old age. How embarrassing for them and their loved ones! (And they wonder why I don't call any more!) I stick with the pleasant friends, who find the good in others without thinking they have to "fix" anyone. As Thumper's father instructed, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."
Yeah, and waking up to P - gotta luv it.
