Hi Emily, Yes, but there are some things your stylist needs to know as Rosy mentioned.  We also recommend doing an air neutralizing which I can explain.  Call me at 603-835-6753 or have your stylist call me and I can explain.  We do it fairly often in our salon.

Hi Debbi --  Was going to email to you but thought I would post here so others could see.  Can a Freedom Wig be (gently) permed?  Mine is only nice and kinky the first day I wash it and gets straighter during the week.  Can I have my stylist give some of the top layers a gentle perm, or do you not recommend it?

Thanks!  Emily

Hi Reesespieces,  Make sure that you use your curling iron on a low setting.  Too much heat will damage your hair and you can't cut off "split ends" like you can on your own hair.  Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner every time you wash it (once a week or so).  Some leave-in's can build up but you can put a little Moroccan Oil on your hair when you first style it.  Sweat won't make your hair dry out, but the inside of the cap can suffer if you don't clean it out well after a lot of exercise.

I've now been wearing my Freedom for 2 months. Finally, I have adapted to it and I am falling inlove with it. I am very active with dance, yoga, running around. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a leave in conditioner or a repair conditioner so that it will last longer. I am afraid of drying out the hair due to sweat and a curling iron.

Thanks

Hi Zara,  the tiny bubbles are caused by sweat penetrating into the silicone.  They are not structural and you don't need to worry about them.  Try to remember to wash out the inside of your piece every night and if you happen to get extra hot or sweaty, you can bring alone some alcohol wipes to wipe off your head and the inside of the wig during the day.  If any of the bubbles grow larger and you can feel them inside the piece, take a sharp needle and slide it into the bubble from the side and squeeze out the water (sweat) from inside it.  They aren't anything that will cause you to lose hair.  If they stay tiny, just ignore them.

general q for everyone: does anyone know what causes little bubbles in the silicon of the freedom cap. ive noticed that there are more tiny bubbles than when i got my freedom 8 months ago. is there anything i can do to prevent it? concerned it will eventually impact the vacuum if more bubbles pop up. also the bubbles appear to be on just the right ride of my wig

I rode rollercoasters this past spring break…every one of them!  No issue with my Freedom Wig whatsoever.  Stayed secure during the high speeds, the ups and downs, the screaming and the upside downs!  Just had to share as I've put my Freedom through every possible activity and my hair has worked beautifully.

Hi Zara,

While you CAN wash your hair in the shower, I've notice that some showers have an awful lot of force (water pressure) that could be too hard on the top of the piece.  Also, if you're like me, you like a nice HOT shower!  In addition, the inside of the piece is not getting washed when it is on your head.  I prefer to wash mine in the sink, in lukewarm water.  I use a bowl to pre-mix the shampoo (you use less that way and it gets distributed more evenly over the hair).  Always comb out any tangles before you wet the hair too.  I rinse, then repeat with the conditioner, pre-mixing it in lukewarm water.  I dip my hairpiece in and out of the water, keeping the hair in the same direction and use a wide-toothed comb to  make sure that it is smooth.  I rinse and then do a cold rinse to close down the cuticle and make it shiny.  It sounds like you are doing everything else well.  I also tuck my hair behind my ears.  As long as you aren't dragging your fingers through the hair where it is inserted, it should be fine.

hi guys!

i've had my freedom for just over 5 months and absolutely love it. Was wondering if there was any advice to prolong the lifespan of my freedom. I have become very aware that i keep tucking my hair behind my ear and that it may lead to mechanical damage, so have started pinning my 'side fringe' so i avoid touching it. I never sleep in my vacuum and often take if off when i come back from a day at university. Also there any negatives associated with washing my hair in the shower with warm water once a week? Should it be lukewarm/colder? Do you recommend any other tips in maintaining my hair and preventing mechanical breakage?

Thank You in advance! :)

I agree with Janine.  Even an inexpensive synthetic will look fine for a while - probably long enough for you to get your new Freedom but the most important thing is to reach a level of acceptance of your alopecia and not allow it to rule your life.  I guarantee that if you tell one friend at work and give that friend permission to tell others about your situation, you won't have to keep repeating yourself and they will all understand.  Most people will be very accepting, some will feel for you, others will just take it in stride.  Try to come to a place where YOU have the power and that means being open about your hair loss and not being embarrassed by it.  Everyone has stuff to deal with, this just happens to be yours.  It really doesn't matter if people know - they like you for you, not for your hair.  Once it's out in the open you can stop worrying about it and letting it cause you stress and worry.
