Sorry Scrappykat, but the Freedom only works if you have a clean-shaven scalp or no hair at all.  Otherwise it won't suction and provide you with the right security.  If you HAVE to wear a wig to go out in public, then down the road you might reach a point where shaving looks like a good option.  It's a very personal decision.  Good Luck!

Hi All,

Will the Freedom wig work if you still have hair?  I have lost a lot on top of my head, but the rest is OK, and I am not interested in shaving my head at this point (just started becoming ok with the idea of wearing a wig after hiding the hair loss with fill in powders etc. for 3 years).  TY for any insight on this :)

Carol, ask your Freedom agent for a recommendation for a stylist with experience - I'm sure she knows of someone as there are a lot of other Freedom clients in England.

It was as light as the rep could go, I assume it *was* extra light. My goal is to look natural as I did not choose to lose my hair (nearly 30 years ago). Being over 50, and only 5'1, a natural look would not involve big hair, that is just me  Perhaps because I wanted wavy - like my own Irish hair - meant a coarser texture for curl? I don't know, but it wasn't a one time thing, I probably had at least 4 Freedom wigs, in fact, I had them before they were called that...! Yes, I know color has to be done.  But it is wear and tear on the hair and makes it MORE porous and vulnerable to further damage and breakage.  Access to "excess(?) sunshine and outdoor activity" is part of what Freedom advertises! Perhaps because I live in sunny Seattle, I needed to color after about a year, I had to purchase after about 3 years. Again, I NEVER slept in them, never swam in them. Understand,  I like them for what they are. They are very good, but you will have more satisfied customers if they can actually AFFORD them and have realistic expectations. I am finding synthetic mainstream wigs to be more comfortable, simpler, and much more affordable.  I think these wigs have gotten much better since I initially lost my hair.  I am finding a lot of community around wearing them too, and hints for wearability.  Good to have choices.

Hi bbonbi,

Selecting an "extra-light" density would definitely reduce the thickness of the hairpiece and would eliminate the thinning you are doing to the hairpiece.  Colour does of course need to be done every once in a while as the hair will oxidize due to lack of oils, excess sunshine and outdoor activity and due to natural aging of the hair.  A simple toner or lowlights solves this problem.   I don't need to colour until around the 18 month mark and I find it a nice change at that point in time.

My freedom wigs were good products, lasted at most 3 years. I never slept in in or swam. But the sun bleaches it out, even in Seattle, and then you have to color it, and in my experience, the hair just gets brassy over time. Also, even with "light" density - the hair is just thick, thick, thick, and I never liked spending money to have to have so much thinning done.

I am really hoping freedom is researching an even thinner silicone to perhaps lighten the weight.  I would pay more money for this kind of innovation/improvement.
