Information

alopecia areata worldwide

Alopecia areata is a type of hair loss that occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles, which is where hair growth begins. It usually starts with one or more small, round, smooth patches.
This disease affects approximately 2% of the population overall.

this is a support group for those who have alopecia (or have loved ones with alopecia). Information shared should focus on your own thoughts, feelings and experiences. Opinions are welcome but should not be misconstrued as medical advice. Auto-immune disorders are individual disorders. What works for one person may not work for another.

Thanx for the comments everyone. I'm trying to take it one day at a time. I go see a Dermatologist on April 14th for the first time in 6 years. Well see what she says. I'm mainly doing it for an accommodation for work sp I cam wear scarves or head wraps. I work in a County building so professional dress is a must so no baseball hats for me. I'll look into the blog sites posted below.

Blessings to you all and have a great night. I'm off to sleep. : )

Kat,

About the nose hair...I lost mine. I get some on a regular basis now but I tend to pluck them out. IDK...

Hello everyone, hope you are all doing good. I had a quick question. My Alopecia started up right before Christmas again this past year and since that time I've devoloped 2 large - bigger than a silver dollar - patches right on the top of my head. Now I have another one on the back of my head about the size of my  thumb. But I started noticing I'm loosing nose hairs too. REALLY WEIRD! but I loose about 1 to 2 every day or so. Defiantly not normal as I don't ever remember loosing any nose hairs ever in my life....

Does this mean my illness might be changing? I've had AA for 10 years now and it's always been the hair on my head, no where else. I've got an appointment for a Dermatologist in April.......   We'll see what happens with that..... Thanks
