We have been hearing A LOT about the new FDA Approved Lilly and Incyte's OLUMIANT® (baricitinib) drug.
We would like to start a discussion here on Alopecia World with people who have tried it, are trying it, or considering trying it. This is a place you can discuss both success as well as side-effects and objections to trying the drug. Hoping this form will help people with alopecia make more informed decisions.
A place that hopefully we can get real users’ comments and reactions. Maybe uncover some things that your doctor never told you about the drug, good or bad. Upload your photos, videos, anything you think the community should know about Oluminant.
Or perhaps you just want to keep your eye on Oluminant, let this be the place.
JOIN THE GROUP TODAY TO KEEP UP ON THE DISCUSSION
According to Lilly, ” Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) and Incyte (NASDAQ:INCY) announced
that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved OLUMIANT® (baricitinib), a once-daily pill, as a first-in-disease systemic treatment for adults with severe alopecia areata (AA), available as 4-mg, 2-mg and 1-mg tablets.1 The recommended dose is OLUMIANT 2-mg/day, with an increase to 4-mg/day if treatment response is inadequate. For patients with nearly complete or complete scalp hair loss, with or without substantial eyelash or eyebrow hair loss, consider treating with 4-mg/day. Once an adequate response is achieved on 4-mg/day, the dosage is to be decreased to 2-mg/day.1 OLUMIANT is not recommended for use in combination with other JAK inhibitors, biologic immunomodulators, cyclosporine or other potent immunosuppressants.”

OK, I'll start since I'm probably someone with Alopecia for the longest time (over 50 years:-) I tried to get in the trials early on but the screen said I was too old and had alopecia universals for…Continue

Hi gymrat66-
I started noticing some hair loss 9/2022 and was completely bald and lost my eyebrows, eyelashes and all body hair by Thanksgiving 2022. My entire house had hair everywhere for dramatic shedding over 2.5 months. I was throwing away a bucket of hair a week. It was horrifying.
I’m so grateful for the hair I have now, even if it’s just temporary due to my $4,998 co-pay that I fight to get reimbursed. We will see how long I have on this drug- simply due to affordability. Just taking it day by day.
Wow Marella! How much hair loss did you have prior?
I’ve been on Olumiant for 3.5 months now and I have full coverage on my head! No acne, just a little bloating, but that might be my comfort food diet due to the snow around here. (I’m in Michigan.) Today was great because I gave myself a haircut. The drug has done very well for me. Now I just wish I could stop fighting with my insurance company to cover it. ***sigh
Hello all :)
I just watched a video on YouTube from a woman who is/was taking Olumiant for her alopecia.

Hello I am 47 and have alopecia 4 separate times in my life and this last one has been the longest with zero hair for over 4 years. I am on my 6 month of Olumiant 2 mg and have almost total coverage with about a 2 inch growth, eyebrows are almost full again and eyelashes are back along with regular body hair. Every 3 months I will be required to do a blood test as well so that will be soon for my 2nd one. I see my Dr next month she hasn't seen me since I had a few Einstein strands. I had a little stomach irritation the first few months but currently no issues.
I've had alopecia since 2007. This is not a drug that would be on my radar. I would love to have my hair back but not willing to pay the price of using biologics. This drug is a biologic. Always, always read, "May cause.....". Biologics increase your risk of developing opportunistic infections including fungal, bacterial and viral. They increase the risk of some cancers.
People may say they haven't experience any side effects from this or methotrexate, but they aren't always obvious. Methotrexate can cause pulmonary fibrosis. It won't show up right away. It is gradual and not something you would even find out unless you had a reason to get an xray or started having breathing issues.
Just not worth it to me.
I have been taking Olumiant for approximately 4 months. I had been taking methotrexate for several years prior. I have not experienced any side effects and my dermatologist is increasing my dosage to 4 mg a day. However, my most recent lab work showed a slight increase in my cholesterol, but not sure if that has anything to do with the medication. I
I will be posting a video or multi videos of my 12 month progress. I will post a video each month of my progress. Anyone interested please email me at Buddhaz32z@gmail.com and I’ll link u
I am pretty sure that I will not try it. Nothing in my life will change if I grew hair. So I would prefer not to take the risk.
