Ms E.- Yes, it's the freckled mole spots. So far I've been using a heavy facial scrub and mask on my head once a week. I usually follow up with a small amount of natural shea butter as a light moisturizer. The routine seems to working well for me so far.

I would love to do a photo shoot. Last year I treated our family to wonderful Canon camera, but the only pics I've taken are of my toddler, lol. This AP experience is very, very interesting. The other day I visited my local voter registration office and received such wonderful compliments. One sister said, "Girl you look beautiful, but why are so many sisters shaving their heads". I looked her over and noticed that she had a relaxer, but her hair was very, very thin". I simply replied, "I believe there are a myriad of reasons, as everyone has their own stories. I would share mine, but I have huge box of voter registration forms in my arms". We both laughed. I leaned over and told her to "google alopecia".

The funniest experience was when I was preparing to attend the Harlem Week Festival. I was very pleased with my outfit and bare head. So I began doing a little dance in front of the mirror. My husband walked by and said "Babe, that bald head has made you into a little vain monster, but you look good though". Later on at the festival my son and I were dancing near the "house music" booth. A striking bald woman looked over at me and gave me a thumbs up. My husband delivered serious eye rollage and laughed. The woman then walked over to me and handed an invite to a "20 bare headed beauties" event. At that moment husband shouts to the woman "why, why did you do that? now she'll dance in front of the mirror all night" LOL.

Bumblebee, I thought I responded to your post and question, but I guess I didn't. First of all enjoy those moments with yourself. If you recall, those first couple of weeks before I went out in public I sat out on my balcony in the sun. It was nurturing.

As far as the photo shoot, yes it was for me.(:
I started using a photographer whose work I LOVE, and his make-up artist, a couple of years ago for my professional and personal shots. (I actually won a drawing for a free shoot the first time, and was hooked :) So I knew when I did the shave I'd need to do a new shoot to both to update my professional materials. I wish everybody could do it--it does wonders for your self esteem. :D

When the "spots" come are they sores themselves? just the freckle/mole-like spots? or dry patches?

My crown area where there's the actual loss hasn't experienced any changes so far. However, I've noticed when the other hair starts to grow back it seems like I can actually feel the follicles poking through the scalp, which creates a somewhat painful sensation.

Since I started using an actual razor, it lasts longer than the electric razor, and I've been shaving like every other day when I'm going out in public.

BTW when did they take Excedrin off the market???
I buy the Walmart generic for $4.00 for a two-bottle pack.
Check and see if they have it.

While attending the quiet hour of a relative this evening, one family member and I were talking and came upon discussion of my having shaved my head. To my surprise she informed me of not only her own bout with Alopecia, but her 10 year old daughter as well--her's even worse than her mom's. Wow... She says her daughter has recently started taking biotin capsules and they've notice a big difference.

She said around November of each year her own scalp gets sore and tender, her hair comes out, and leaves sores on her scalp.

I told her about AW and how there's a wealth of experiences, information and support here.

I'm finding this part of this AP journey to be amazing!

I really don't know. It hurts to touch my head when I have these episodes. I use to take Excedrin, but they took that off the market. I'm so tender headed, I thought it was just me being a baby. Nice to know I am not along with the itching and pain.

Hi Angela! I was wondering, why is it so painful? When I scratch it forget it, the area gets very tender and sore. Is there anything we can do about the pain?

Hi Moonflower, I have to do the same. I stopped shaving for a few weeks and hair was growing back. All of a sudden, head started itching and hurting again and there comes the spots. Oh well, but I will be rocking the hats for the winter.

Hi Bumblebee! Glad you had a moment of relaxation today without the scarf. I sometimes wear headwraps and for the winterI plan on collecting a few sharp hats.

As far as shaving my hair, it was on a buzz pause but now I have to shave it every few days before the spots start showing out lol. Yes they have a mind all their own :).
