Profile Information:

Single
About Me:
6 years ago since I first lost my hair and its now april 2014. I had a full head after 3yrs and then its been in and out like mad, its just now growing and falling out which is so frustrating and confusing. I have lost a lot this time and was also diagnosed with a disease called endometriosis which I believe is what could have made my hair loss happen or worse. I still don't know how to cope with alopecia and just now wearing a hair piece while waiting on a wig for safety in case I lose more hair. Took a step back from this group as I was feeling positive with my hair but feel like im back to square one. Needing some support around me to help me accept whats going on.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia areata
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

Hi Lynne, thanks for friending me! Wow, allergic to the sun, that's incredible. It's a good idea to wear high SPF sunscreen when in the sun at all times anyway because of the uv rays. Sorry, I went all MUM on you :-) Stay blessed Sweetie!

Hello Lynn, thank you for friending me...and thanks for the compliment. I've only started in the past year (since finding this site) becoming more comfortable going without wigs in public (although I've not gone totally uncovered), I wear scarves or bandanas and I'm really loving the freedom. My next step is to go out totally bald (gotta give that one time). I love having options (different styles, colors) of wigs or options with scarves or bandanas. I'd never thought about it before, but since having Alopecia, I am much more sensitive to sun...I break out in certain areas that I'd never had problems with in the past; but I'd never thought about linking it to my Alopecia. I'm sorry that has happened to you and maybe one day you'll get your hair back, but know you're beautiful either way.

    Hi Lynne :)

    Thanks Lynne.

Yes, all is well here. Hope the same is true by you. :)
  • Lizzie

    Aw! Thats excellent, congrats!!
I know it's really though to just ignore everyone around you. I have AA since I was young, so I've gotten used to it, what with going to school and everything. But honestly, it get so much easier, I forget that I have no hair!

    God bless.

  • Rebecca Rae

Hello, thanks for the comment :D
Yeah it would be great to have a chat with loads of people that have alopecia, cause none of my friends really understand what its like to have this. Thanks again.
  • Anastasia

    Hi there!

I figured I'd check on you to see how you are doing. I hope your week went well. I've been pretty busy this week myself. I think I might try to do something fun this weekend, but I have no idea what. Anyway, take care hope to hear from you soon :-)
  • Rebecca Rae

Hmm, thats not so good for you!! Yeah i have had alot of that, at school and stuff this one girl thinks its funny to talk about it to other people and say rude and nasty comments, but everyone else is backing me up 110% so thats always a confindence booster:) Its always good to talk to someone who understands what your going through, but sometimes it can get alittle to much, if you know what i mean. Speak to you soon :).
  • Andrea Olberding

Hey! thank you hope you're well too. Thanks for the welcoming. We should chat sometime

    Hope all is well

  • Jackie

Hey Lynn, I responded to your post before looking at your pics....now that I have checked them out, I am convinced that you are hot with and without hair...don't get any more down on yourself..walk tall and confident (even if you feel small and nervous)..it really does help.
  • Kayleigh George

Oh im sorry.. I really dont think anyone has the right to see you bald head. The thing is that if they havnt been through or a close family member hasnt they dont have a clue and someitmes dont know how to act. But in all you are strong because it is you that has lost the hair and you that is going to work and getting on with your life.
I have someone at my work that when she talks to me she stares at my wig and it frustrates me just want to say to her yes i am human i just dont have hair is that a problem?!
    Yeah Im doing ok thankyou
    Keep your chin up
    xx
  • Tracy and Amanda

Hi Lynn, I am doing okay. I hope you are as well. I just joined and I am so glad I did everyone has been very friendly here welcoming my daughter and myself.
  • Sue F

Hi Lynn, Thanks for adding me as a friend. My son and I are doing okay. I hope you are too. I read your blog about rude people. I'm sorry you've had to go through that. I can't believe how some people can be so rude and hurtful. My son, Sam, still has to put up with the stares and unkind comments even after 11 years. It's so heartbreaking. He says it doesn't bother him, but it surely bothers me. He says he wishes people would just ask him about it rather than constantly stare. He's come a long way over the years. I hope things get better for you. I'm sending lots of hugs your way. Oh yea, about the article on my blog, I just found it yesterday. It was all over the news today, but no more information was given. Hopefully, there will be an update soon.
  • Somaaya

  • Kayleigh George

Heya you ok? Im back now!!!! How was your weekend?
  • Kristen Viveros

Hey Lynne. I think that my eyebrows are coming back but they are very misshapen so I'm not sure. I havent noticed any change in the rest of my hair. But I know the day is coming so I am just waiting for it now.
  • Tracy and Amanda

    Hi lynne,
Just wanted to know how you are doing? My little girl made a comment earlier today that broke my heart. She mentioned she wish she had all of her hair because whenever she touches a bald spot she gets sad because she feels there is no hair there. I think it is starting to bother her for the first time in the 3 yrs she has had it. Try to stay strong. Talk to u soon.

  • Kayleigh George

Hey thats brilliant that your going to be getting your wig. I felt a lot better when i had my wig it make me look "normal" to other people. If you know what i mean.
I am good thankyou. weekend was brilliant well lush weather... and didnt get burnt lol!
I brought a human hair wig for £50. i dont believe its truth though!!
  • Kayleigh George

Yes wigs are expensive and i know for fact that you cant get human hair wigs on nhs :(
Yeh thats how my eyebrows went and now i dont have nay. but you should go into clinqe or how ever you spell it in debenhams or boots and they sell a brilliant eyebrow pencil and they will teach you how to do eyebrows that look natural! Thats what i did :)

Hi Lynn, I'm afraid I don't know what vacuum wigs are, although I could try to do some research on it. However, if you're looking for wigs, you will find tons of information about wigs, wig salons, locations, and stylists in the resources provided by my article, "Headed in the right direction: the head covering as marker of a Jewish woman’s identity Part II," which you can find at http://www.examiner.com/x-12088-Brooklyn-Jewish-Examiner. Be sure to click on the "All About Wigs" resources section on the right-hand bar of the page. My article also contains useful information on how to control cost and get the most out of your wig. Please feel free to ask me any further questions either here or on my page at the Brooklyn Jewish Examiner.

    Best of luck!
