    Hi Julia,

I love your website and I have added your book to my want list. I have to read your book. I have a love for butterflies due to it beauty and have one tattooed on my back. I love how you stated on your website that butterflies represent transformation and how you related it to how a person changes one self. It was a beautiful & truthful statement.

By the way you are a very beautiful person & have such a beautiful family! :-) I have put your name down in my book of people who are an inspiration to me.

Oh gosh, I know what you mean!! If I ever get a full head of hair back, I don't know what I'll do! It'll add so much more time in the morning to get ready! I'd rather through my little "hat" on and go!
  • Catharina

Hej Julia! I am proud to be one of thr 22 in the book. Now I am waiting
to read it.Lovely with the Butterfly. Love Catharina from a cold Sweden!

My Alopecia was discovered only 8 months ago but it has probably been falling out for a year without me noticing it. I have managed to conceal it in my thick hair and I'm holding off the inevitable shave as long as possible. My hair seems to fall out after my morning shower. Maybe I should stop showering?? I'm not sure if it falls out from my 'spots' or if its from other parts of my scalp.??
Do you know....? Does Alopecia Areata become Alopecia Totalis or Universalis? Is it a progression from one form of Alopecia to another or are these categories of hair loss?
    Thanks
    gonz

hey julia! i looked on that site to see if they would run the story about the book, but i didn't see any links about it? i am talking about the one where you gave 4 names. Well, someone contacted me and i answered her questions, but then i couldn't find anything about it on mansfieldnewjournal.com. also, i got your message about the story on velocity weekly link.....that is awesome! i love the work you do! did i tell you i ran the half marathon here in houston bald and there is a local magazine here that they have in grocery stores and they wrote a story about why i ran (to raise awareness about alopecia areata). i felt so good knowing that i could inspire and raise awareness....it was awesome!
  • Prayer

    Julia,
Thanks for the link. Your pictures are adorable and you seem to have such an attractive appearance in all your photos. Do you have any special beauty tips that you can pass along, I dont know how to word this without being offensive to anyone because that is definetly not my intention but I feel this is a website that we can connect and be open but your appearance does not look as to one that has alopecia it just looks like a sharp lady that decided to shave her head, your eyebrows and eyelashes appear to pop and do not fade out like most individuals. Do you have any tips?

  • julie

i am doing a lot better but am just contemplating about if i should have quit therapy as i couldnt afford it and have no job/insurance... and i decided for myself that enough was enough yet i guess i still worry about it but after a year, what can they say, what more can u talk about you know?.. there comes a point where you have to just realize maybe its not as bad as you think and the world wont come to an end.. and you have to deal... i am better, although i still have my anxious moments and disappointing things that have happened to me thru this....
  • 3mee

Hi Julia! Thanks for the add.
  • Josh and Kiah

Hey Julia never got back to you to say thanks for putting Kiah in the book. Between that and her article with Charlie she really feels like a celebrity now! Everyone I have shown the book to loves it and it was a good experience to sit down and write about our lives. Are you going to the conference this year? Also, you had mentioned emailing some of the pictures that you took in Louisville and Im sure that got lost in the shuffle but if you could still email them we would love to see them!

Thanks again, hope to see in Houston and the girls say hi!
  • julie

I am better frankly and giving up therapy has not harmed me as i thought it would. guess i was thinking it would be harder to make it but i have done ok. Frankly we all know what therapists will say and what they will tell us, guess I was tired of spending my money I dont have as I lost my job too and was laid off. She keeps telling me I wasnt ready to give it up yet I have to do what I WANT TO DO Sometimes even tho she means well I feel she is just looking for her salary... And I've had enough after a year u would think that should be enough. I am feeling it doesnt look as bad as it did, dont know if its improved, if its just i'm mentally better, or if it never was that bad.. who knows i just know i'm dealing better.. and trying to hang on. I'm concentrating on trying to lose weight and eat right and trying to transfer the "hair" energy into the "weight" energy so I can concentrate on things that are good for me. Thanks for always helping me.. and I hope to stay in touch.

    Hi!!!
I know it's been a while. playing catch up.
I wont ask how you or the little ones have been cause I know you've been beautiful the entire time!

Jazz got injections in her scalp about two months ago and is to go back on Monday to get the more. Havent seen improvement plus she really cried the last time so I'm not sure if she will get them again.

As usual, keep up in your prayers. I think of you often.
When's the last time you spoke with Gayla?
How is the book? Did you finish?
    Chat soon.

Julia, Columbus is about four hours from us. But I thought I'd let you know that Cheryl and I will be spending more time in Cincinnati since one of my sisters and her family are moving there this month. Hopefully, we all can hook-up there. :-)

Hi Julia, I too applauded the Today Show, I emailed them letting them know that I was one of those 4 million, I had the rarest form universalis. I requested they do continue this segment there was so much more to touch on. While alopecia is not life threatening it is life altering, it also can be life threatening for some 25 % of our sisters & brothers who are so depressed they think of suicide. I also noted about medical procedures we go thorough & the battles undertaken with insurance companies & medicare to cover medical procedures as well as wigs. That wigs or hair systems are expensive & not everyone can afford. I hope they continue. I loved your words of wisdom, for it is up to us as we accept & embrace our baldness to venture out & help one another.
You have a beautiful family. You are quite an inspiration. Take Care.

  • Gale Moorman

Hi Julia, how are you? Here in NYC we've been having such changeable weather it gets sickening, ha ha. One day 45 and the other day 65. I've had alopecia for over 30 yrs. and just 4 months ago decided to go to a support group. After that I continued to go but I started my own. It's a motvational get-together I call it where alopecians of any age, culture whatever come together. I do a 30 min. motivational/inspirational talk on coping and living with alopecia and then the attendees can feel free to ask questions/give answers or just give an kind of input they want and then it's social mingling time. People exchange phone numbers, e mail addresses, wig store locations, whatever they need to feel comfortable and there is refreshments and snacks. It's not quite like a support grp, but not as big as a major event. It's really rewarding, but a lot of work getting and finding people to get together.

I just visited your website for the first time - WAY TO GO! Are you planning on attending NAAF next year? Please join the International Alopecia Day Group (was National Bald Out) - next year's event is August 6. Mary
  • Angie P

I found your book today at Border's! I'll be diving into it tomorrow. I can't say that I've ever seen a book on the shelf specifically about Alopecia. How cool!
  • Angie P

Hi Julia: I found it at the Borders in the Galleria. On their locator it'll probably say Westheimer Blvd. There were 3 copies there. I may go back and snag the other 2 to send to family.
  • SutraHuh

Hello Julia! I don't know if you remember me, but i went to one of your alopecia sessions in louisville, at some library… i kind of forget the name:(( I just recently joined alopeciaworld! How have you been?

    Hi Julia! No problem.

Please join the International Alopecia Day Group, if you'd like. I see you belonged to the Group under its former name, National Bald Out. I'd LOVE to have Kentucky represented with a photo - August 6, 2011. It can be a gathering, or one or two people. Check out my video slide show from last year's events.

    All the best,
    Mary
