About Me:
My name is Dana and I am 35 years old. I’m a laid back girl that loves to laugh. I believe the little things in life count the most & make the memories you never forget. I was first diagnosed with Alopecia as a teenager and luckily have only had one spot at a time (although usually large enough that it's difficult to hide). At first I sought treatments and steroid injections with a dermatologist with a lot of negative side effects. During my last bout I went the holistic route using vitamins, essential oils and diet changes. I have been back on the supplements and using the oils this time though I am not yet seeing the same results as before. Having recently moved across country, I am looking to make some new contacts with people.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia areata
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

Hello,

Visited with a new Derm yesterday here in CA. I didn’t technically go to see him for my Alopecia – I went to discuss my extremely dry, itchy, cracked palm on my right hand. He told me that I had Keratosis Palmaris, gave me a steroid shot and prescribed me some ointment. He advised me that although they weren’t connected in anyway, the meds may also help the Alopecia.

Naturally, I’ve been reading all I can online and have found a link between this and Alopecia called… Continue

Posted some pics tonight that are a few months old...things are much worse now. Thinking about seeing a therapist for an outside outlet. Anyone had positive results with this?

Hi Dana, I started losing my hair steadily for about the last year and was able to cover most spots by pinning it back for the first 5 months or so. I soon had to start wearing hats and when my hair got so thin that I found it hard to arrange the hair "just right" in the back to cover my rear scalp, I had to give in and shave. Boy do I feel sooooooooo much better! No more arranging my few strands, no more worrying if my scalp is showing. I am sleeping alot better all of the sudden and my bf thinks it's because I'm not worrying about my hair now that it's gone. Btw, I love my new wig. I get compliments every day at work. Good luck to you, Yvette

Hello and welcome, Dana!
I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" You can find out more on my page -- and it's available on this site under "Bookshelf." Let me know if there's anything else I can do!
