About Me:
I'm 32, currently living in Montreal, QC with my partner of 5.5 years. I'm a sixth year PhD student in Counselling Psychology, and I'll be submitting my dissertation in just a few weeks. I've had alopecia universalis since I was 6...and I'm a strong believer in just being whoever it is that you are. I'm realizing though, that it takes a lifetime to figure out just who that is. I'm enjoying the journey, though.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia universalis
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

It happened again, and why am I surprised? I'm currently collecting data for my dissertation and last week was faced with difficulties that are not research-related but alopecia-related. Something research supervisors can't really prepare you for...

I'm developing a career counseling group to motivate unmotivated high school students to engage in career exploration. During one of the group sessions last week while exploring each participants' individual strengths and characteristics,… Continue

Ok. So I haven't been on here in a really long time, and am feeling a) out of the loop, and b) embarrassed that I can get so wrapped up in some aspects of life that I forget about other aspects, like connecting with people here. I actually find I think about this site a lot, and about all of the amazing people who are sharing their stories, supporting one another, and celebrating their differences. Part of what's keeping me so busy these days is that I'm teaching a course for the first time in… Continue

I'll let my head speak for itself

I had an interesting thing happen to me last night. I was out with my partner, Phil, and an old friend of mine, and we started talking about relationships. My partner and I started the conversation by talking about how we argue often and can both be difficult people at times - he has his reasons, I have mine. Then my friend joined in and started telling Phil that there's no way that I can be that difficult, because a) I come from a really supportive family, and b) I've never had to deal with… Continue

what beautiful people!

I had started writing a long, in depth exploration of several issues I have been thinking about since I joined Alopecia World over the weekend. My plan was to post it here, and for it to be insightful and interesting. It was going to include a social and psychological commentary on identity, beauty, and acceptance (or the struggle for it). I have the blog entry saved, and hope to rework it and post it at some point. I think it has potential :). But...it was simply taking too long to get out on… Continue

Hi Emily, Nice to see you back. I know how busy things can get. I am good. Busy at work and then this site in the evenings, but I am looking forward to the summer and just relaxing a bit. How about you?

It's wonderful that you want to help. Me too, that's why I wrote my book (If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!).
Good luck finding that special place for yourself --
A hug!
