School starts in 2 weeks for my 10 year old. His journey with aa began last summer. At the begining of the school year a "health" assembly was held where the nurse explained to all the kids what AA is and Casey was given permission to wear a hat. THAT WAS THE BEST DECISION EVER!!! The school and kids have been fantastic (except for just a couple of situations). Casey did wear a hat all year and it wasn't until the beginning of summer that he moved to AT (no hair, eye lashes or eye brows). With…

Hi everyone. Well I’ve been away from AW for a couple of months. Very business time of year and unfortunately the last few months have been pretty hard regarding the alopecia. It’s been 1 year since we first noticed the spots of hair missing on my son’s head. One year later and son has lost it all - hair, eyebrows, and now the eyelashes are going. He had a few stray hairs left that we finally shaved. He was ok with it until his official unveiling, taking his hat off in front of his baseball…

If I had a dollar for each time someone has told me that at least my son doesn't have cancer or some life-threating situation going on so "what's the big deal". They say, "gee he's a boy and the bald look is in so he'll be fine". I'm sorry but my 9 year old son is emotionally hurting and so am I. My son loved his hair. In fact, hair has been is security blanket since he was born. When he's wanting to relax he plays with my hair or even his own. I know that even if he gets his hair back (75%…

I just need to share with someone, so I picked everyone :) I took my son to the doc yesterday ready to tell her we were ready to take a break from the treatment as he has had such significant loss, especially in the last week. He had lost 70% in about 2 month since it started and the last to go is the top. He lost about 1/4 of the top in the last week. IKES!!! We have been using a steriod ointment that leaves his hair so oily he has to wear a hat even though he really doesn't want to. Anyway,…

I hear so much about stress being a major factor in alopecia. I've heard alot that it was probably a stressful event that set off my son's alopecia. I've talked with him and we can't come up with anything. Anybody have any thoughts on how stress factors in on the developement or continuation of alopecia?

I just recently found out the Christopher Reeves (superman) dealt with alopecia beginning at age 16. I showed this info from the internet to my 9 year old son. I told him that he had good company with what he's going through as I personally think that Christopher Reeves was extremely good looking, talented, etc. My son was very intriged and I think he found it comforting to a degree. Do any of you know of any other celebrities (adults or children) who have alopecia?
