Some people............................

My school has this new strict rule about wearing hats unless you have a medical condittion (which i have). The office , security guards and my teachers all know why i wear my hat. So today while me and my friend were walking around the school the head security guy came up to me and said i know you have a reason to wear your hat but i need to see a doctors not (and of course i didnt have one i dont carry around doctors note's with me) so the jerk made me take off my hat (there was a decent amount of people around might i add) once i took it off he said "oh uh ok you can put it back on now " then he gives ME a lecture on how this whole thing could have been avoided if i had i doctors note with me. I wanted to say well if you had any common sense you would have realizied that I must have a good reason to wear a beanie when its 98 degress outside. There was a lot of things I wanted to tell him but I didnt want to get in trouble. I was pretty upset afterwards.

So me and my mom went to the princable and she sort of sided with me but she also sided with him too. She told us that other kids lie and say that they also need to wear a hat because of a medical thing so she said that he did it so he wouldnt get in trobule. So nothing was done about it but I guess im not that suprised schools always side with their staff and think that the students are filled with crap.

Hi Lauren, the head security guy doesn't sound like he's the brightest bulb on the tree. If he knew you had a reason to wear your hat, he had no right to ask you to remove it. Then he covers for his stupidity by lecturing you, wow! I'd really like to give him a piece of my mind, but people like him wouldn't get it. Some folks are just plain insensitive. Be strong, this too, shall pass, but I feel you on the upset, I'll be your upset partner today...I'm upset too!

hey, i'm sorry you had to go through this. i had a similar experience but it was in a mall of all places. on the bright side i don't think he will be saying anything to you about it again. you shouldn't have to carry a doctor's note everywhere you go. stay strong!

Lauren,
Sorry that happened to you. If you ever want to talk to someone, I live in Albuquerque, I can give you my # if you ever want to talk. I've been thinking about you ever since you blogged that story about the soccer game, I really hope that you have great family and friends that support you. Just enjoy your life and all the things that you like doing. Keep good people around you and take care of yourself. I need to take my own advice too, lol!! Hope you are ok! Hope to hear from you soon!

I LOVE your "would-be" retort regarding the heat and wearing a beanie by choice and I would say, if you have the guts next time, to SAY IT! I wish I had said SO many things now, Lauren, to SO many people. I had kids teasing me who thought I had cancer and that I was dying . . . I can't believe I didn't just quietly reply, "You're giving me a hard time about being sick and actually making fun of me that I might die? What kind of person does that?" So, anyway, you sound like an amazing and strong young woman and I just want you to know that a well-phrased retort is perfectly acceptable at times. I never said anything because I thought if I engaged them that it would get worse. Now I think certain things I could have said might have stopped them in their tracks and also educated them at the same time! :)

hi lauren,

i'm sorry this happened to you! maybe you should try and talk to the principal or someone in administration and let them know what happened, because that isn't fair for you to be embarrassed like that. if he knew you had a reason for wearing a hat, why did he need to have that reaffirmed by a doctor's note? and why would he expect you would carry a note around with you? how rude, that makes me mad! that's happened to me before also - my school also had a strict "no hats, headscarves, bandanas" policy and a teacher made me take off my headscarf because i didn't have written permission to wear one, even though they all knew my reason for wearing it. i hope you get it all sorted out and i hope the security guard doesn't do that again! keep smiling and don't think much of it - stay positive!

Hi Lauren,
What a knob! I hate when people act like that, you should learn to speak up for yourself. If that ever happens again, take him for a walk to the office and let them deal with it. You certainly don't need that and in front of everyone!!! Have your parents back you up, they should call the principal and complain. People sue other people over stuff like this. That security guard should lose his job or get suspended without pay or better yet have to walk around in his underwear for the day for making you feel so exposed! :) Stick it to the man Lauren!

Hi Lauren,
I agree with the others. Complain about this guy! What a creep! The minute I read your post I got ticked off. He must have an ego problem. I would bring it to the attention of someone in authority. Definitely let the principal know. Good luck.

I can't believe people can be so insensitive and down right stupid. I a m so sorry you had to go thu that. There must be a way to make a formal complaint and you should do it. I'm sure the school would not be happy if you parents omplained about him too. Everyone deserves to be treated respectfully.

This guy is in serious need of some training on how to treat people with respect...he knew and went there anyway. I hope you told your folks what happened.

Lauren, at least one of you acted like an adult. You should be proud of you handled yourself. You can't fixed stupid and, sadly, you'll meet some of these lesser evolved individuals as you go through life. Never lower yourself to their level or let them make you feel bad about yourself.

If you were my daughter, that security guard would be wearing a new hat himself. It would be one that reads, "I've just been FIRED!"
