So,

I'm currently sitting at work - on what should be a wonderfully long easter weekend - however - I am instead spending my time in an un-airconditioned office, waiting for some people to complete their work so I can do mine. Yay.
Lol - enough of the complaining - it has however given me the time to make my first blog post ever.

I heard of this site from my friend (and leader of the Queensland Alopecia Areata Support Associate) Angela, and thought - wow - I must join. It has been about seven years since I was actively apart of any online support groups for Alopecia - and this place just seemed the place to be.

So now - here I am - running around, reading forums, following threads and making friends - essentially - having some fun.

About me:
I'm 22 years old, and have had alopecia pretty much since I was 5 years old. I first lost it at 9 months - but you'd have to check with my mum to hear all the history about that.
I have an identical twin sister (who has not got alopecia), I come from an amazing loving and supportive family, and my friends are an interesting and awesome bunch of people.

My most recent challenge (alopecia or otherwise) has been breaking up with a long term boyfriend and moving out to live by myself is this awesome apartment. Living by myself is forcing me to do alot of soul searching and also giving me the opportunity to take control of my life and just find out what I want from everything, and what I have to give.

I also recently bought my first wig ever (thanks to the wonderful help of the girls at Starkles in the city and at carindale) - it's red/auburn, short, sassy and looks amazingly natural. I'm calling her Moxy. It's interesting having hair - especially as she hangs in my face alot - but I'm enjoying the experience (only having worn it out once) and looking forward to her keeping me warm in winter :c)

So thats me - that latest news, and some general info.

Please say hey if you want.

Dominique,

I also had a similar experience back in 1991. Soon after being diagnosed with alopecia, I divorced my ex-husband. It was scary time, but also a time of great reflection.

I stayed single for quite a while and actually got pretty use to being single and independent. I learned to love my own company and I was able to sit in a room with myself for hours on end.

Now that I am engaged to rj, that took another learning curve. One that allows me to share my life again, it has been an adjustment, but I am coming along ;)

Moxy, I like that!

Thanks for sharing Dominique!
