NEED help with insurance company!!

If anyone has any input...please help. I am trying to get reinbursed for my hair prosthesis through United Healthcare. I already appealed it...sent them a bunch of paperwork...and they denied it! I'm not sure what to do at this point. Should I try to get a letter from my doctor saying I need a scalp prosthesis, not a wig? What else can I do?
I cant beleive this crap!! Its bad enough we have to go through this...and they have the NERVE to say that this is COSMETIC!!! ; (
Thanks for your help

I know you can use the term "Crainial Prosthesis" on your Federal Tax Return under medical expenses.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I definitely would get a letter from your doctor-restating your position. Good luck. I never have an easy time of it with United...with anything!!

My insurance sucked, too. They wouldn't even cover any of my dermatologist visits saying that the steroid injections were cosmetic surgery.

I did try the psych. approach in my letter. I really thought that the info I sent would be enough. I think I have to get a letter from my doctor. My coworker had a good idea. She said have the doctor write a letter saying Im allergic to the material in any other kind of wig...or it irritates my scalp...ect.

Thanks Felicia and Kerri...I did participate in registry already. I also tried the NAAF ins. packet. The only thing I am missing is a letter from my doctor. Hopefully, he can write a letter stating I need a prosthesis...not a wig. Thats all I can do is keep trying! And I will!! ; )

The letter from the dermatologist must state that you need a full cranial hair prothesis, my healthcare provided has paid for several with this letter. Make sure it does not mention anything about a wig.

Hi, there, I can't really help with this at all, but I'm glad I've found the topic to vent my anger with the health care system!
It's so ridiculous! How can they say this is cosmetic for gods sake!
Having a boob job is cosmetic surgery and i've heard of a few people that have had them done free on the NHS (british medical system).
I'm trying to try the psych aproach over here.
Good luck with that!
