Get a style book for punctuation, pauses, tense agreement, abbreviations and contractions. Those are the things that are hard to remember in a pinch. See APA or OWL styles online, and print out the hints.

Every time I have been enrolled in courses requiring correct writing style, I have been referred to those manuals...probably to prepare the works for future publishing, and to make them more readable for the teacher! Just Google those words, and you will find resources.
