Cortisone injections. Should I go for it? Please comment :)

I have tried pretty much every cream out there to try and get my hair back and the one that i'm using now doesn't seem to be doing much either, I've almost given up! The last option that i really have is multiple cortisone injections into my scalp. I don't know much about them and would much appreciate any information or feedback on them...are they painful? I'm not very good with needles but i'll try anything! PLEASE comment if you have any experience with them or even just a bit of info! Thanks! :) x

Shots were painful to me and made me feel like a dang guinea pig. Some blood, headache, dents in scalp. (Many others report weight gain.) As for me, my periods came on too often, and we never really knew if the steroids in the shots caused that. If I had to relive my teen years, I wouldn't get shots at all.

I'm having success with them atm. They do not 'hurt' just uncomfortable. You should definitely try them I don't have any side affects and this will be month five doing them.

I found them to be uncomfortable but worth it as the hair did regenerate. I think you should try them, everyones experience will be different as will their response to the shots.

For me the shots only worked for a short period of time before I moved onto other treatment options.

Unfortunately I did not find anything long term that worked. I first started with the steroid injections in my eyebrows then scalp. As the alopecia progressed I then tried topical immunotherapy on my scalp. I don't recall the drug's name but it was 'poison ivy' like. After that failed to work I switched to immunosuppressants which worked amazingly well but could only remain on them for a few months - some strange side effects but the hair regrew. The last round immunosuppressants made me physically ill and it was then I realized my hair was not worth all of that. So since 2005 I have been waiting for more of a sure thing and getting use to my new look.

I started them in November 2011 and I felt they did nothing for me so I stopped in April, May this year. I think everyone is different to how they reacte.

Just had Kenalog scalp injections done a little over a week ago. I have been getting them every other year or more for the past 17. First time, my dime size spot turned into 1/2 my head within a couple weeks, all because my Kaiser Permanente Dr. would not refer me to a dermatologist. Read my bio, funny story on how I got my referral...Anyway, they have always worked for me. The pain really isn't that bad. Give it a try, you can always make the Dr. stop. Good Luck!

I've done them on and off again for the last 8 years and they didn't help me at all. :( The first time I tried them they didn't work but I tried them a few more time since thinking maybe this time it will work but never has. I didn't have any problem with the pain but needles don't bug me so that could be why. I did notice about a week after I got the shots my head started getting these pits were the shot was given. That worried me a bit but after about 2 months my scalp went back to normal. I have heard it work for others so it may work for you but it didn't for me. Good luck!
