Every once in a while I will get a compliment on my "hair" from a stranger. Yesterday a woman said "I love your hair". I just smiled and said thank you. It is nice to get random compliments from strangers... it reminds me that it isn't obvious to everyone that I am wearing a wig. Also, I used to never get compliments on my hair from strangers especially when it became really thin so this is a nice change.

The other weekend I went to a party. I was getting myself a drink and a woman said that she loved my hair. I said thank you then she said she loved the color. She kept going on and then she said "It is so pretty it almost looks fake". I replied "it is". Her jaw dropped. She said sorry because she felt bad about the fake comment. I told her about my condition and she said she had known two people to have hair loss problems. This woman was a friend of a friend, which is why I felt comfortable telling her I wear a wig. If a person just says that they like my hair, I only say thank you. The other day I was at the movies and a woman asked where I get my hair done. I told her the name of my friend's salon. Maybe I can get my friend some business if I keep doing that. I should ask her for a referral bonus!

It is also nice when old friends tell me they like my "hair". I received two compliments this week from old friends of mine that saw new pictures of me on Facebook wearing a blonde wig. They both told mentioned that it looks good when we were catching up. It is nice that old friends of mine don't even realize I'm wearing a wig. Wigs have come so far and I can't wait to see what's next. GO WIGS!

This happens to me sometimes, too! And they'll comment on how pretty my eyelashes are! haha! Sometimes I tell them, and sometimes I don't ;) It feels like a fun secret!

Yes, it does feel like a fun secret for sure! :) Sometimes I think to myself... If you only knew.

I used to almost feel guilty when people would compliment my "hair" because I knew it was fake. I guess it was hard for me because I've never been the type of girl/woman that wore a lot of make-up, wore hair pieces, braids, extensions, etc before the alopecia. I was never a "girly" girl. Being natural was always important to me. Eventhough the wig helped me deal with the hair loss, it never felt natural. Guess that's one of the reasons I've stopped wearing it. Now when I get compliments on my "head", I enjoy them so much more.

What sort of wig do you use? My brain is totally spinning with all the options!

I use standard cap synthetic wigs. I know... there are many options! I like the standard cap synthetics because they are more affordable and low maintenance. I wash them like once every 3 weeks and that is it. I brush it out with my fingers each night to get any tangles out then in the morning I just put it on and go. I felt a human hair wig and those are really heavy and I have heard they are high maintenance. I haven't tried any Mono cap synthetics yet but I want to one day. They are more expensive so I'd rather have the standard cap. Also, I'd much rather have 3 wigs that were cheaper than 1 that is more expensive. I haven't tried or seen any lace wigs yet. Part of me is afraid if I try a Mono top or lace wig, I'm going to love it then that is all I will want and I can't afford them. Lol. If you haven't been to a wig shop yet, I suggest you go to one and go try some on. Tell them you want to see one of each kind. I'm sure you will find what suits you best.

Well, I have a blast becoming blond or red (I am naturally brunette), with thicker hair, more styles, etc....then shedding all when I come into the house from 110 degree weather. No curling or blow dryer or hot rollers in this heat...style holds with synthetic wigs. I actually tell those who ask where I get my hair done the name of the wig shop, and tell them that they, too, can get the same "do!"

I've gotten comments like this too! People are constantly asking me how I style my hair or what conditioner I user. :) Most of friends had absolutely no clue that I'm wearing a wig until I tell them. I love my wigs!!

Gail... I'm sorry that makes you sad. I can't remember receiving many compliments on my real hair so for me it is the opposite. Not that I didn't have great hair, it was smooth & silky, but I couldn't get it to do a lot of things.

Tallgirl... I do too have a blast becoming a blond or red head. It's fun being blond one day, brunette the next, then red head the next! I love it. Thats a good idea. One of my co-workers wants to get a wig because of me now just for when she has a bad hair day.

Clara... Yes, most people have no clue with me too and that is so nice! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.

I went from being so down about Alopecia to excited about all of the wigs I can get. I have worked out a trade at a wig shop and will be getting my first mono top wig soon. I agree that it is fun to be a different color each day. I had someone tell me today that they love the color of my hair. It was a red day. I call them my fair (faux hair) not my wigs. Lol. I can't wait to try another color!
