Go Wigs!

Every once in a while I will get a compliment on my "hair" from a stranger. Yesterday a woman said "I love your hair". I just smiled and said thank you. It is nice to get random compliments from strangers... it reminds me that it isn't obvious to everyone that I am wearing a wig. Also, I used to never get compliments on my hair from strangers especially when it became really thin so this is a nice change.

The other weekend I went to a party. I was getting myself a drink and a woman said that she loved my hair. I said thank you then she said she loved the color. She kept going on and then she said "It is so pretty it almost looks fake". I replied "it is". Her jaw dropped. She said sorry because she felt bad about the fake comment. I told her about my condition and she said she had known two people to have hair loss problems. This woman was a friend of a friend, which is why I felt comfortable telling her I wear a wig. If a person just says that they like my hair, I only say thank you. The other day I was at the movies and a woman asked where I get my hair done. I told her the name of my friend's salon. Maybe I can get my friend some business if I keep doing that. I should ask her for a referral bonus!

It is also nice when old friends tell me they like my "hair". I received two compliments this week from old friends of mine that saw new pictures of me on Facebook wearing a blonde wig. They both told mentioned that it looks good when we were catching up. It is nice that old friends of mine don't even realize I'm wearing a wig. Wigs have come so far and I can't wait to see what's next. GO WIGS!

I actually was asked the same thing... this girl was like Ooo your hair is so pretty...it's like it's not real. I think she was being rude.
I know her freind she was with knew for sure I wear wigs. I think maybe she was like oh that's girls hair is pretty and my friend of a friend told her it was a wig and she wanted to find out for sure.
what does one do in this position? I told her it was a wig, but I am private and only share this infor with people I get to know. what do you think?

I would have smiled and said thank you. I may have said that I wear wigs and love them and that it is so much fun. If her point was to be nosey and maybe hurt you feelings this positive response may have turned it around.

I recently went to a wig shop and the sales person was wearing the cutest wig. I don't think she needed to wear them. She said that she looked at hair as an accessory. She has several wigs. I think it is becoming more acceptable and even fun. No one but you and your closest friends have to know why you wear them. Don't let people get you down. We are beautiful with and without hair. By the way, we have hair, we just did'nt grow it.

In that position, I would have just said thank you. She maybe wanted to find out for sure and she thought you would tell her. With me, I think it depends on the situation. Sometimes, I can tell if the person is being genuine or if they are being rude. Usually with strangers, I just say thank you unless they are being genuine and we have a mutual friend. Next time, I think you should just do what you are comfortable with. Don't feel like you have to tell anyone that you don't want to.

Pam... I agree, a lot of people wear wigs that don't need to wear them. When I bought my first wig, the saleswoman was also wearing a wig. She took it off to show me how to put one on and she didn't have any hair loss problems. It is fun for sure! We are beautiful with or without hair!

I too know how you feel. People compliment me on my "hair" all the time. I just smile and say thank you, however, on my bad days when they do; I feel like yanking it off and say "here you go." LOL.. I know they have no clue that I'm wearing a wig, but sometimes its just so hard to deal with knowing that they're complimenting something that's not mines (well it is mine because I paid for it...LOL). I always got compliments on my hair styles even before I started to lose my hair because I was always changing my style from cutting it boy short to letting it grow to my shoulders. So needless to say this has been a very difficult experience for me. I am adjusting to it day by day though, even comtemplating shaving the hair I do have left off..

It is a nice feeling when they have no clue you are wearing a wig, I think. But I definitely agree that it is hard knowing they are complimenting a wig. Sometimes I say to myself "If you only knew". :) With me, I never really got compliments on my hair before the wigs so it is a nice change. I couldn't afford to go to a hair stylist often so I dyed my own hair and cut my own hair at times. Now I get to have styles and colors I couldn't have before. I'm sorry you had a difficult experience with it. I have a buzz cut right now, almost bald, and I really like it.
