In my last blog post, I lamented on my dad's critical view of me going outside without my wig on. Well, I have moved over 1000 miles away from home, parents and in with my best friend. In the last month I have noticed black hairs sprouting up all over! I must also disclose I have started to use the DNCB treatment that I'd previously gave up on. I had one tub of the stuff (expired, but, ah hey why not) and thought I'd use it up. Things look good!

That is awesome. It makes you wonder was it the treatment or the change in lifestyle. My daughter is in her 4rth month of sulfasalazine and just started sprouting hairs. Her boyfriend broke up with her and she just started college. So, again we wonder is the treatment kicking in or is the stress of the changes in her life. This condition is so difficult to figure out. We are going to continue treatment and hope for improvement.

What is DNCB treatment?

The DNCB is an irritant applied to the scalp. It basically works to irritate the skin and trick the immune system into leaving the hair follicles alone and attacking the irritated skin instead.

The sulfasalazine is a treatment that has been used for years in other autoimmune diseases and is relatively safe. You can google it and find the studies.

Hey that is awsome ! I am in a stage of regrowth as well. I have been using a shampoo and scalp treatment called nioxin it seems to be helping and if my regrowth continues as it has for the last 4 months I am hopefull that I can toss my wig by Christmas ! (at least for a little while anyhow). Best wishes to you :)

Is nioxin prescription? I saw your pics and they really gave me hope for my girl. Thanks.

No its not a prescription. Its a shampoo that you can buy at wal-mart salons its about twenty dollars a bottle and it tingles when you use it so its like you can feel it working. Best wishes to you :)

Becky, did you lose all your hair? For how long? That is fantastic news about nioxin! I have used it before.
