Honestly, she is amazing! When I told her about my alopecia diagnosis, she told me we were together in dealing with it.
She bought me clip in extensions that are red and blue to show me that while I still have some hair, I can be stylish. She listens to my fears and complaints with no judgment. She buys me cards telling me I am beautiful. She texts me words of encouragement. She bought me a little donut looking thing that I thought was a shower body scrubber and it turned out to be a "sock bun" insert so that I could create a healthy bun with my thinning hair. (just like I used to when my hair was full)She made me a hair band with a silk flower on it and bought me a funky hat for my birthday. She doesn't flinch while checking out the ridges on my scalp from my injections and texts me words of support while I am getting the shots.
I don't feel alone while I have her with me. I wish that all of you could have someone like her.
Anyone else want to share stories about their guardian angels?
She sounds like an amazing friend! You are lucky. I think I could have called one of my friends a guardian angel... she gave me the shove that I needed to give wigs a try. Because of that, I am in a much better place. Unfortunately, we are no longer friends, but I often think about the fact that she really helped me when I needed it.
I think the only "friends" (penpals) I have who are not afraid of alopecia are on this site! The rest, in "real life," try to avoid the subject, so I do not talk about it with them much.
