I opened the door to my home late Friday night and saw the most beautiful woman in the world. She glistened as I fastened my appreciative gaze on her and thought to myself, “What a lucky man!” I walked in her direction because I needed to divest myself of the things that were in my hands, but as I approached her and noticed that she noticed me, I could feel the rhapsodic rhythm of love beating in my heart. She did not initiate our conversation. Rather, I did because I was so pleased to have her in my purview. Emboldened by her cordial countenance, I greeted her with the self-assurance that she would be gracious in her reply. She did not disappoint, and only moments later she fell into my arms because we fell so deeply in love many, many moons ago. As she will forever be, she was, and is, the phenomenal woman of my dreams.

I arrived in Detroit late Friday night and just as I was turning the key to the entrance lobby, I saw him. His eyes were fixed on me and I felt them. He opened the door, cupped my face with one of his hands and softly kissed me. It has been 2 weeks since we have seen each other and it was like the first time we met. There was nothing spectacular about this weekend but it was amazing. We did “ordinary” stuff, made breakfast, worked on a blog, picked up one of his daughter and went book shopping, had the brakes fixed on his car, but what is ordinary to couples that live 10 minutes away is extraordinary to a couple that misses out on those everyday moments. I long for the Sunday afternoon in which we can go visit friends or family instead of driving for 9 hours away from each other, or a Tuesday that we can be studying something in front of each other instead of over the phone. I appreciate the little things that you do to make the distance almost transparent. We constantly connect throughout the day, take walks together, study the Bible or a philosophy, watch a documentary or a movie, all over the phone or Internet. But more than anything, I want those everyday experiences that so many take for granted. rj, believe me when I say that Friday night I was looking at you in the same way. I love you babe.
