Lessons learned from my students & alopecia

I am a high school teacher along with running my business. In high school, I teach some tough kids, the kids that don't love school, the ones that have many other issues that make school seem meaningless and the kids that teach me everyday in one way or another.  I love both my jobs.

I decided to share my story about my hair loss with my students this year and with my high school volleyball team that I coach.  The result was complete understanding and empathy from all of the students.  In fact an article in the local paper just got published about one of my student athletes who donated a 13" ponytail to go towards the creation of a Freedom Wig.

The lesson I learned, tell your story (when you are ready) as it allows others to pay it forward.  It has been nothing but rewarding.  It has taken 5 years to get to this point of freedom and sharing but it has been so rewarding thus far.

Here is the published article.

I have learned so many lessons from my students and my alopecia and for that I am grateful.

That is great! You are beautiful with or without hair. I wish I could get a freedom wig. It's way out of my budget plus I'm in North Carolina. Thank you for your story. One day I may be able to be open with mine!

You are beautiful inside and out, Jennifer! The same anxieties about everyday activities that you have seemingly overcome continue to plague me, nearly one decade after my diagnosis. Do you every do business in Vancouver? I would be interested in purchasing a Freedom Wig.
