My First Anniversary with Alopecia & My First Blog...Fast Forward Second Anniversary

Hello Friends,

It has been a wonderful year indeed. Unexpected and unpredictable.

It was an unusually warm and clear summer night in San Francisco. A night full of laughter and celebration with friends. It was July 4th 2007.

After the smoke and embers cleared I awoke and went off to work. But there was a suprise waiting for me. Something different. A small circle on my head appeared before me. I thought what is this? Had an ember of my Independence fallen upon me? Most certainly it had.

I toiled and troubled myself for weeks as the circles appeared and grew into ginormous crop circles. Appointments ensued with doctors armed with needles and potions yet no promises.

It was now Sept 11th 2007. With clippers in steady hands the buzzing started and ended with a world map upon my head. The visual map has since faded but the unseen map has grown.

Life for me has changed dramatically. From sorrow and anger to acceptance and joy.

This past year has been truly triumphant with the finale at the NAAF Conference in KY. This experience has inspired and enlightened me to embrace my future.

Thank you to my husband Leo for keeping me Warm, Safe, Happy, Loved and Satisfied.
And thank you to my dear friends at Alopecia World for being who you are and sharing your life with me.

Celebrate your diversity.

Yours, Forever and a Day.

Jeff

Part 2

Hi Friends,

Today is July 7, 2009. I am celebrating my Second Anniversary with Alopecia.

Another year has passed and I'm happy to say it's been a great year.

Since my Diagnosis 2 years ago I have made some of the best friends anyone could ever imagine.
Many of the friends I have met are right here in our own backyard on Alopecia World. I have been fortunate to be able to meet some of these friends at the last NAAF Conference in Houston.
If you have never been to a NAAF Conf I highly reccomend it. It will change your life. I know it did for me and so many others.

With the help of You, Alopecia World and NAAF I wouldn't be where I am today.

Many Thanks to All!!!

Jeff

Happy anniversary, who would have ever thought that the words Happy Annivesery would be used with a diagnosis of Alopecia, but surely can be.

From sorrow and anger to acceptance and joy., I was just thinking this morning that nothing bring me more joy than reading post where people have embraced their circumstances and what seemed to be one of the worst things in our life, becomes a real turning point.

For new alopecian or people who have been struggling for years, please know that this place exist and any of us can get there, Jeff and many others are proof. Congratulations Jeff.

From the moment I met you, you have always brightened my days with your joyful outlook on life and general joviality -- that and knowing that you are an awesome cook whose general descriptions of culinary delights makes my mouth water with just the mention of chocolate mole and tamales or crab salad and wine! I'm so proud to call you my friend -- and I wish you many more Happy Anniversaries!!

It is hard to believe that another year has passed and to truly see that life does go on whether we grow our hair back or not. It is 18 years for me now and I have realized that with the right support and the right people around me, my lack of hair has becomes of little importance, with the exception of God allowing rj and I to create Alopecia World.

We are not exempt from experiencing all the ups... and all the downs of life. But I have learned that by putting alopecia in its proper place allowed me to truly experience the joys of relationships and understanding of acceptance. Not only did I learn self-acceptance, but the ability to allow other to accept me as I am as well.
