It’s been fifteen days since I shaved my head.
I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. For some reason, I thought it was going to happen later. Well, yesterday I got “the question.”
I knew it was going to happen and I was still taken aback by it.
I guess it’s because the person who asked me wasn’t a friend. It wasn’t out of concern. She was just being nosy. I assume she was asking because I shaved my head because didn’t even mention my new look. She didn’t even say good morning. She just asked if I had cancer. I said no, I have alopecia. She replied, oh, thank God and walked away.
Nice, very nice.
At least you went that long without getting the question. I think it will take a while until you aren't taken aback by it. I can't believe she said that then walked away. Just try to remind yourself that there are ignorant people out there.
Man, makes you wonder what she would have said if you did have cancer.
The good part, is that you were able to say that you have alopecia. Atleast you can say that you handled yourself properly.
no ones ever asked me 'the question' before - it's always been something like "keep battling" or my daughters got what you've got" or the odd sympathy look. it's like water off a ducks back these days, it's just peoples ignorance but to be fair - Us alopecians are so good at hiding away that it's no wonder people often jump to the wrong conclusion.
